In our pain, He is there—even 25 years later.

“Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.” Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.”” - John‬ ‭11‬:‭21‬-‭27‬

Have you ever wondered why “like the dewfall” appears in the Eucharistic prayer? The phrase is significant for a few reasons:
First, the priest cannot produce change over the bread and w**e alone. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, so he must invoke, or call down, the Spirit, much as the dewfall comes down from the sky.
Additionally, manna appeared in the desert each morning with the dewfall. (Exodus 16:13-14). The true Bread of Heaven - Jesus - arrives for us in the same way.
And finally (this is our favorite), dewfall appears and acts as the Holy Spirit does: silently, invisibly, gently. As a metaphor, the image captures the quiet, mysterious, and real descent of grace.

You can learn more about the beautiful prayer we celebrate each week! Join us at the 9:30am Mass this Sunday to hear more about how God remembers his promises and they are made truly present on the altar.
