Dignity/Milwaukee

Dignity/Milwaukee A Chapter of DignityUSA, we offer LGBT+ Catholics, Christians, and Allies support.

Statement of Position and Purpose (Dignity/Milwaukee in conjunction with DignityUSA):We believe that gay, le***an, bisexual and transgender Catholics in our diversity are members of Christ's mystical body, numbered among the People of God. We have an inherent dignity because God created us, Christ died for us, and the Holy Spirit sanctified us in Baptism, making us temples of the Spirit, and chann

els through which God's love becomes visible. Because of this, it is our right, our privilege, and our duty to live the sacramental life of the Church, so that we might become more powerful instruments of God's love working among all people. We believe that gay, le***an, bisexual and transgender persons can express their sexuality in a manner that is consonant with Christ's teaching. We believe that we can express our sexuality physically, in a unitive manner that is loving, life-giving, and life-affirming. We believe that all sexuality should be exercised in an ethically responsible and unselfish way.

Blessed Pride! As Pride month is marked in many parts of our country throughout June, we are focusing on Pride as Witness. We are very aware that visibility is difficult and even dangerous for some in our community. Those of us who can be out and proud, in our daily lives and during Pride celebrations, bear witness to our conviction that our identities, our relationships, and our lives are sacred and reveal aspects of Divine Love that God intentionally breathed into being. We bring this belief into our marching, our tabling, and our liturgical celebrations as we reclaim Pride as redemptive. Let us use these days to witness to our wholeness and holiness, as well as to recommit to our mission of achieving justice, equality, and full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in our church and society.

We also invite you to check out our Pride Blessings from 2021 or 2022, In Our Own Words: 50 Years of DignityUSA, or one of the many other inspirational recordings on DignityUSA’s YouTube channel for Pride Month Inspiration. Even better, join one of our Chapters celebrating a Pride liturgy, either in person or via livestream! Find information on Chapter liturgies by visiting our Chapters page. We wish you all a safe and re-energizing Pride month.
