First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort -HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH-

In 1914, the Town of Nutter Fort was known as the Fairground Addition. On October 20, 1914, Dr. W.C. Taylor and Rev. W.J. I. Davisson, J. N.
(2)

In April of 1914 a group of friends and neighbors desiring to unite in worship in the Baptist faith obtained permission from the Clark District School Board to hold Sunday Church School in the Jacobs School Building, located at Washington Street and Ohio Avenue in Nutter Fort. Services were held each Sunday until October 14, when upon arrival the building was found padlocked. That very day, plans

were made to erect a building approximately 45 by 24 feet on the corner od Franklin Street and West Virginia Avenue on lots that had been purchased in May for $775.00. Work started immediately and within one week the building, which affectionately became known as "The Chapel" was in a state of completion sufficient to allow the first worship service. Newton assisted the laity of "The Chapel" in organizing the "New Fairgrounds First Baptist Church." Charter members included; J. Webster, Delia Riley, Mary A. Davisson,
E. L. Ervin, Iva Kyle, T. H. West, Carl Riley, Emma Kemper, Charles Irons, L. A. Riley, Elizabeth Kester Johnson, Ella Ervin, Myrtle Webster, Mrs. Henry Page, and Icle Irons. On March 6, 1915 the name was changed from "New Fairgrounds First Baptist Church" to "Fairview Baptist Church." On February 4, 1934 the name was changed from "Fairview Baptist Church" to its current name the "First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort." On October 20, 2014 our church family celebrated our 100th Anniversary of worshiping the Lord.
