"Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers?" -Psalm 94:16 ESV
As a Christian, you are part of God's army. There are many roles- infantry (fighter), cook (feeding/nourishing), medic (tending wounds), chaplain, commander and others, but all are still soldiers at the core and must be prepared to engage the enemy if needed. Your armor and shield of faith are protection against the 'fiery arrows of the evil one'. (Eph. 6:16) But sometimes arrows get through because a shield has been lowered. Exhaustion, sin, sorrow, complacency, etc.- there are many reasons, but the result is the same - your friend is wounded in the attack. Many Christians rush in to come alongside, having their attention solely on the fallen, but no thought to the attack of the enemy behind it. Be alert! (1 Pet.5:8) This is the point at which your initial aid (prayers) must be quick and effective. (Neh. 2:4, Jas. 5:16) Then you must turn, raise your shield of faith to protect yourself and your friend and counter attack to repel the enemy. (Jas. 4:7) You DO have biblical authority -and a duty- to fight against the enemy for others. Strike with the sword of the Spirit, speaking out the powerful words of God.
"Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God's people." Eph. 6:18 CEV
