Yesterday at youth we had such a powerful time studying Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11). It’s such a blessing watching our young people hear from the Lord and share what He’s revealing to them!
We landed on two powerful words: “Grave Clothes.”
Is it possible that many of us are still wearing bits and pieces of our grave clothes?
Those old, smelly, rotting things — the habits, fears, lies, and insecurities that cling from our old nature that still need to be sanctified. They’re the things that keep us from walking fully in the freedom Jesus died to give us.
When Lazarus came out of the tomb, he was alive… but still bound.
And Jesus said, “Loose him, and let him go.” (John 11:44)
Lazarus didn’t remove his own grave clothes? Jesus directed the family and friends around the tomb to assist. That’s a picture of us, our youth group. Our Church.
We are called to help those who are bound to step into freedom, to speak life where there’s death, to bring hope where there’s no hope and be the light in the darkness.
The Christ in us carries resurrection power.
We are the generation sent to proclaim liberty to the captives and open prison doors for those who are bound (Isaiah 61:1).
Let’s take off our own grave clothes—and help others do the same.
