Thoughts from the Pastor
Breath Prayer:
"Jesus, You are faithful: and we hold firmly to You."
This morning, one of the Scriptures for the day was Psalm 128. As I engaged with the Scripture during my Quiet Time, I read the words "Happy are those..." and I found myself irritated, almost resentful. My first thought was "This doesn't apply to us, so I'm not going to spend my time looking at it. I'm going to move on."
But if I take time to look a little deeper, I see that fear is lurking behind my reaction. "We are faithful, why aren't we experiencing this?" "Others are faithful, why are they struggling so hard? Why are they being killed?"
Lord, this world is in a mess again, and the nations who call themselves by Your name are causing the mess. God, hold the innocent - protect the innocent - and punish the wicked. May their schemes become failures. May those who have suffered at their hands find healing and provision.
"...Casting down the mighty from their thrones and lifting up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty." (from the Song of Mary)
Please Lord, have compassion on those who are suffering. Stop those who are committing atrocities in Your name.
