The most concerning cultural idols are often the ones that go unnoticed—those areas of life where participation is assumed and there is very little discernible difference between followers of Jesus and the rest of society. Among these hidden idols, technology has risen to become one of the most destructive. We do not need to imagine a dystopian future where humans are enslaved to machines; we are living it now. Technological advancement was designed to serve humanity, yet we spend our days in service to the technology of our own making. The negative outcome of this technological bo***ge is a harmful reordering of our lives, specifically in the areas of human congnition, community, and sexuality. Join us for this crucial discussion where we will explore God's good design for technology, critique our misuse of technology, and practically explore how Christians can navigate the increasingly technological world that is upon us.

L'abri is a ministry started by Francis and Edith Schaeffer. The goal was to create a place for people to ask life's big questions within the context of hospitality. We're hosting a documentary about the L'abri site in England tonight at 7pm at the church building. Discussion to follow.

You've probably heard us say: if you love Jesus and eat with people you will have an impact. And our Making Room campaign wasn't just about bricks and mortar but about hospitality; welcoming others as Jesus has welcomed us, for the glory of God (Romans 15.7).

So this summer here's the "Hospitality Challenge", should you choose to accept it:
host 2 meals - one with church folks, one with neighbors.

The goal isn't to be fancy or impressive. This isn't "entertaining" it's being hospitable. Open your life and your home to others to give a little picture of the kingdom of Jesus and his welcome. No Martha Stewart level table settings or decor needed. The aim is to open your home and your life and gather around the table with others.

New City Women, join us for our summer series as we consider what it looks like to live with God, community and our families. Once a month, we’ll gather together for dinner and to take a look at a topic through an interactive teaching time, personal reflection and table discussion.

This month, we’re looking at life with community and friends. Drawing on the opening verses Romans 15, we’ll consider principles that ground our efforts in building relationships and we’ll also talk about the practicalities of fostering friendships. We hope you join us!

"We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.For Christ did not please himself... May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." —Romans 15:1-3, 5-7

L'Abri means "shelter" and is a ministry envisioned and started by Francis and Edith Schaeffer with the particular aim of tackling life's toughest questions within the context of hospitality. This vision very much resonates with us at New City, and so we're happy to screenof the documentary, "A Kingdom of Tea and Strangers," followed by discussion. We'll pop the popcorn, bring a beverage of your choice! Register here: https://newcitycincy.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/2995868
