He is Alive !☀️

Matthew 28:5-6, 18-20
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying."

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

On this day in history…

From the Gospel of John 13:14-15,34-35

14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Christ and His disciples ate His final Passover meal together. In this intensely intimate scene, Christ demonstrated the humility He desired HIs followers to emulate. At the same time, the scene was marred by Judas’ betrayal, as he chose to leave the upper room and alert the authorities of their opportunity to arrest Jesus. That startling and agonizing event, unfolding in the Garden of Gethsemane after the last supper, marked the end of the disciples’ time together with their Lord and left them in fear, confusion and uncertainty.

As believers in Christ Jesus we have the blessing of the Holy Spirit, the holy Word of God and the knowledge of the final victory. We do also have His command to love one another as He has loved us. Contemplate that. The humble, self-sacrificing, radical love in the service of others with no expectation. Christ is the perfect pinnacle example.
Christ is love.

On this day in history...

From the Gospel of Luke 22:1-6

"Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching. The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people. And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve. And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them. They were glad and agreed to give him money. So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd."

Judas had a love of money. Many scholars and theologians also suggest that he, like many others, expected a political leader that would overthrow Roman rule, and thus became disillusioned at the lack of progress and intent there. We know there is so much more to Judas' betrayal than that. How could a disciple who walked with Jesus for years, heard Him speak, saw His miracles, betray Him? We know that Satan entered Judas. If his heart truly belonged to Jesus how could that happen? Then there is the sovereignty of God who planned and knew every detail, even chose Judas, to carry out this great evil and bring about the greatest good known to mankind.

We read about Judas in the holy scriptures and think: "Oh, Judas, how could you? I would never !" Even though we know it was God's plan for this to happen, it does not absolve Judas of being accountable for his actions and decisions. He chose a lesser love. Now is the time to examine our hearts. Does Christ hold the preeminent position? In what small ways do we deny Him and choose a lesser love? The voices of this world are loud and insistent.Sometimes we think it is easier to forsake our relationship with Christ for the thing that is in front of us.Oh, how we grieve the Holy Spirit when we deny Christ's Lordship over our lives. How could we?"

On this day in history..

From the gospel of Matthew 21:23-24
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and [a]cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.”
Jesus entered the temple again and taught the disciples and the crowds with amazing wisdom and supreme authority. The religious leaders immediately began questioning him on many things. They questioned the source of his authority and they conspired together to try to trap him for speaking falsely so they could take him before the governor. They feared the people because of His popularity and the threat He was to their power and authority. They needed to silence his influence. Jesus, however, always had the perfect answers. He spoke truthfully, pointing out the leaders' hypocrisy, while revealing the Father's heart. They could not trap him in falsehood and they didn't know what to do...
The truths of the faith, found within the Word of God, get challenged again and again. When that happens, the impulse to follow your own earthly logic, knowledge and feelings may lead you to fall into the very same hypocrisies that Christ preached against. Seek first the Lord. We have His teachings in His holy Word. Submit yourself to His divine authority. He is the way, the truth and the life.

On This day in history...

From the Gospel of Matthew 21:12-13
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ [a]den.”

Christ is perfectly holy; the perfect God-Man who knew no sin. So when Jesus Christ entered the temple grounds in Jerusalem, a place meant for worship and prayer, and He saw the chaos of a marketplace, He was filled with divine, holy anger in defense of His Father's house. He saw the corruption, the hypocrisy, the exploitation and the heavy burden on the people that was in direct opposition to the purpose of the temple. So He threw them out. He cleared the temple and made room for worship. What wondrous love is this!

There is so much to glean from this historic account. We can start by acknowledging that as believers in Christ Jesus we each are the living temple of the Holy Spirit. Clear out your own temple of hypocrisy and corrupting sin, and make room for what you were made for: true worship, prayer and relationship with the living God.

On this day in history...

From the Gospel of John 12:12-13

12 On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.”

The crowds were curious and excited to hail the arrival of the "King of Isreal". But later that same week, when events did not line up with their expectations; when things got hard and even dangerous, these same people abandoned their King. Some fled, some denied even knowing Jesus, some plotted against him, while others shouted "crucify him!"

Now, as opposition increases, is the time to be steadfast in faith. Not only when things seem easy and joyous, but when they are costly and difficult, do we shout "Hosanna to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! All hail King Jesus!"
