WELCOME BACK! Regular worship services will resume on Sunday, September 13th with Reverend Susan in the pulpit! After the service, the FPN Dads' group will be grilling us some tasty beef and veggie burgers and hot dogs. Drinks will also be provided. We are inviting the congregation to contribute salads, sides, snacks or desserts to this pot-luck welcome back coffee hour. It will be so much fun to see one another again and enjoy a sit-down picnic together. No need to sign up, just bring whatever you wish. See you soon! (Any questions, contact Heather.)

The South Shore YMCA is supporting students in need of school supplies, and they reached out to First Parish of Norwell with a specific challenge - can we purchase six graphing calculators for students in upper-level math classes who can't afford these pricey tools? Our Children and Families' Justice Team has stepped to help by offering matching funds up to $300 to make it happen. Can we raise $300? Any donation helps, even small ones! Please donate today - we have until August 31st to access the matching funds. Thank you for helping students to take advanced math courses!

Juneteenth has been celebrated for 150 years, though many Americans have learned more recently about the history and legacy of this celebration of freedom.

As human rights attorney and author Qasim Rashid writes, "June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation—enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free. The delay was not an accident. It was a choice. Power does not surrender what it can still hold ... Juneteenth is not a celebration of freedom achieved. It is a reminder of freedom deferred—and a demand that we refuse to defer it any longer."

Rashid writes powerfully about the reckoning that Juneteenth calls us all to undertake. You can read more of his essay from the link below.

First Parish of Norwell will be honoring Juneteenth by helping at the South Shore Unity Council Freedom Day Festival at the Hingham Harbor from 4-7pm on June 19th. Come to listen to live music, enjoy delicious food, and support local black-owned artisans and vendors. All are welcome! We hope to see you there.

May we all recommit to justice and freedom for all. May we stand in solidarity with our black and brown siblings who demand accountability and equity. May we reckon honestly with our history and work tirelessly to improve our future.
