Norway UU Church

Norway UU Church Services held at 11:00 from Sept through June.

The First Universalist Church of Norway, Maine, also known as Norway UU, is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association of North America and is an ethical and liberal religious community dedicated to promoting the ongoing search for truth and to affirming the inherent worth of the individual. We understand reality through human experience, enlightened reason, scientific method, and the

democratic process, and we find the central source of power and goodness within the human heart, mind, and spirit. Individually and collectively, we assume responsibility for our future, our community, our children, and our interdependent world. Our growth and actions as thoughtful, compassionate, and ethical human beings advance our humanist vision of a world of peace and love, dignity and equality, freedom and justice. Our Mission, as we live our historic liberal faith, is to nurture spiritual growth, honor diversity, and offer service with love.

Our flags seem to weather the elements for about a year. Blessing new flags has become a beautiful annual event and a way for us to rededicate ourselves to the values of equality and the inherent worth and dignity of all people - the statement we make by hanging our flags for all to see out front on our church. Many thanks to photographer Wayne Charles.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

We remember the six million Jews murdered by N***s, along with millions of others targeted for their lived identities—Roma people, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, political dissidents, and more.

Remembrance is not only about honoring the dead. It is a moral commitment in the present: to confront antisemitism, resist dehumanization, and refuse the lies and violence that make atrocities possible.

May memory sharpen our vigilance. May it strengthen our resolve to protect human dignity—always.

Today, UUA President Rev. Sofía Betancourt, PhD was arrested in Washington, D.C., alongside other people of faith while protesting the Department of Homeland Security budget.

Rev. Betancourt joined religious leaders at the U.S. Capitol Complex to oppose a budget that continues to fund ICE and Customs and Border Protection—agencies responsible for ongoing harm and violence in our communities. As she said earlier today, there is no moral justification for a budget that deepens this damage.

This is a developing story. Read more about today’s action and Rev. Betancourt’s remarks—link to the article in the comments.

Kathy was a beloved member of our church community.

Kathy A. Campbell Obituary
Portland - Kathy A Campbell was born July 10, 1949, daughter of Ralph E Campbell Jr and Eunice (Atwood) Campbell, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at Maine Medical Center. Family by her side.

She is survived by her brothers, Errol Campbell from Hinckley, ME, Roger Campbell from Livermore, ME and her sister Rosellen (Campbell) Taylor from South Portland, ME. She was predeceased by her sister Brenda (Campbell), Adams and a brother Arlan Campbell.

Kathy graduated from Dirigo High School in 1968 and was voted to have best personality. She then went on to college in Boston, MA. She worked in Portland, ME at Maine Medical Center and The Red Cross as a phlebotomist. She went back to college at University of Maine in Portland, ME where she earned a BA in Fine Arts.

She loved gardening, created beautiful wood carvings, unique pottery and paintings. She also enjoyed biking, hiking and sewing. She also practiced meditation and Tai Chi, both enhancing her mind and spirit. Always willing to learn something new.

Some people are born with the task of swimming against the tide. Kathy did just that, with courage, grace and humility Family and friends loved her for her big heart, quiet/well-earned wisdom, and strength.

In 2019 Kathy became a resident at the Casco Inn in Casco, ME. She flourished here, making many friends and was active in craft and exercise classes. While at Casco Inn she was a member of the Residential Council and served three years as the Facilitator. She was the first to hold this position and helped to mold it into what it is today.

She was someone who brightened and enriched the lives of many.

She will be missed more than any words can express.

"There is no silence louder than missing the voice you love."

The Unitarian Universalist Association condemns the Trump Administration’s military strikes overnight against the country of Venezuela. These actions were taken after months of U.S. military harassment resulting in the deaths of Venezuelan civilians and undertaken without involvement of Congress, according to published reports. As people of faith and conscience, it is essential to speak out now as this situation quickly escalates, creating dangers across the Hemisphere.

The people of Venezuela have the right, as all people do, to safety and self-determination. We urge our elected leaders and the courts to exercise definitive moral leadership to swiftly curtail these abuses of power and prevent this Administration from causing further loss of life and violations of international law.
