The Meeting

And so I find it well to come
For deeper rest to this still room
For here the habit of the soul
Feels less the outer world’s control
The strength of mutual purpose pleads
More earnestly our common needs,
And from the silence multiplied
By these still forms on either side,
The world that time and sense have known
Falls off and leaves us God alone.

John Greenleaf Whittier

Wilton Quakers are partnering with the Norwalk Police for this Gun Buyback on Saturday, October 5th. Let us pay you for unwanted guns! There will also be a limited number of handgun safes given away (bring your permit!). One stat: 60% of gun deaths are suicides - so let's have less guns in our lives ... and save lives. And if you keep a gun - Safe Storage Matters!

Every Mother's Day the Wilton Quakers show up in Norwalk on the bridge by the aquarium to remind people that Mother's Day started as a Peace holiday ... that Mothers stated they do not want their children taken off to war. We had about a dozen folks this year. Including Peter Murchison and Virginia Auster (100 years old!!!)

Wear Orange! Wilton Quakers for National Gun Violence Prevention weekend yesterday. Gun violence is so common in America we sometimes don't realize there are over 40,000 killed a year and that as of last year guns are the leading cause of death for kids (surpassing the automobile.). If you work for peace, remember this terrible "local war" needs your action too! Know it! Fix it! Vote!

Our own 100 year old Virginia Auster was given an official state proclamation celebrating her great and long service to various CT organizations. She is one of our heroes! Thank you Senator Bob Duff and State Representative Tracy Marra for joining us this morning!

Friend Diane Keefe shares this poem and pic

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray. In the silence, there is a sacred mystery, a path that shows the way not with words but with the heart’s yearning.”
