Pentecost!
This Sunday (5/24) we celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, when the promised Holy Spirit filled the first disciples with a sound like the rush of a violent wind and with tongues as of fire resting upon them. Pentecost is not only a story from the past; it is a living reminder that the same Spirit continues to be the source of breath, movement, and empowerment for the Church today. As we remember what God began on the day of Pentecost through a small group of Jesus’ disciples, my prayer is that we will seek, envision, and dream what the Spirit can do through us here and now, in our time and place. And as we gather in worship, may our joy and peace as partakers of Christ’s resurrection life abound and overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
