History Collaborative for Norton UMC This page will reflect detailed information about the rich heritage of Methodism in the Norton, Virginia region.

The final service at the church was held on November 9, 2025. We have been so blessed and treasure memories from our past.

The Norton United Methodist Church merged with the Wise Trinity United Methodist Church during an official meeting with our District Superintendent Rev. Jane Taylor. The Norton congregation has sold their former church building and now participates in the life and work of the Wise Church. We are all thankful for the gracious welcome and hospitality extended by Pastor Phillip Bates, Mona Bates and the entire congregation. We are blessed by our past, but even more encouraged by opportunities in the future.

One of the ways the legacy of the Norton Church will continue is the newly endowed Norton United Methodist Church Scholarship. The scholarship will provide financial support for local students attending The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

Contributions to the scholarship, such as memorials or one-time gifts are welcome and may be sent to: Advancement Office, 1 College Avenue, University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Wise, Virginia 24293. Note Norton United Methodist Church Scholarship on the memo line.
