House of Acts Ministry

House of Acts Ministry Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common.

The mission of House of Acts Ministry is a ministry training center that is founded upon Ephesians 4:1-3 "Live a godly life worthy of His calling, being completely humble & gentle, patient, gracious in love & make an effort to keep the unity of the Spirit The vision of House of Acts Ministry (HOAM) is found in Acts 2:42-47 NIV
"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, t

o the breaking of bread and to prayer. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

For this devotional we will be looking at two different books in our Bible.
First, Matthew 14:22-31
Second, John 21:3-7

Something shifted in Peter from his demeanor.
In Matthew chapter 14 we see a Peter that is fearful to leave the boat and get into the water, even though, Jesus reassured him.

Later, in John chapter 21 we see a Peter that has no problem getting into the water. He doesn’t just get into the water but the text states that, when he heard John say that it was the Lord that, “he threw himself into the water.”

As I was studying these two chapters, I asked the Holy Spirit to give me a word and revelation. And the word the Holy Spirit gave me was TRUST.

You see, for me personally, TRUST is a foundation for any relationship I am in, whether it’s a friendship, business or romantic.
My motto is, no trust - no relationship.

But let’s go back to Peter.
So what had changed? The reason why Peter threw himself in to the water so unapologetic was because he now trusted Jesus.
That trust was developed between them during Jesus’ ministry time. And although, there are several theories about the length of Jesus’ ministry and the time that he spent with His disciples, that time was ENOUGH for Peter to witness Jesus’ character.

1- You can trust God.
You can trust God because of His Character.
The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “ The LORD, the LORD a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, Exodus 34:6

You can trust Him because His character never changes.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

2- You don’t have to understand to trust God.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us the following, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
Many things in our walk with the Lord will not make sense to us. I have to confess that I struggle with trusting God with the smaller things but are faster to release the bigger things. For example: I completely trust Him with my salvation, however, at times I struggle with trusting that He is also involved in the smaller details of my life such as a stressful work meeting.

3- What are my other options besides trust?
The other options are worry, fear, stress.
Honestly it takes less work to trust and release than to try to control and figure things out.
The pharmaceutical companies are booming in the U.S. as more and more people are diagnosed with illnesses like anxiety, depression.

The truth is that it is difficult to place our trust in anyone we don’t have a relationship with; it’s difficult to place our trust on someone we don’t know. But the truth is that God is NOT playing a hiding game. His Word tells us,
“when you search for me with all your heart you will find me.”

My prayer for you today is that you get to know the One that not only knows everything about you but is also, longing to share His heart with you. Today, may be like that fearless Peter that threw himself into the water in complete and full surrender of Jesus.

You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully you shaped me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.
Psalm 139:13-16 TPT

You are not an accident.
You are not a mistake.

In this Psalm we read about the intentionality God had when creating you, from your innermost being to the outside anatomy.
You were not mass produced. He shaped you with love, He created you with His unique skills. He formed you from nothing into something marvelously breathtaking.

I encourage you to meditate on this section of Psalm 139. I pray that your desire for getting to know your Creator is revived. And as you get to know Him more intimately and get a deeper revelation of Who He is, your identity in him will be confirmed and affirmed by Him alone.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1

Are you stuck only believing what you are able to see? Did you know that there is so much going on that our physical eyes can’t see?!
I believe that is why we are instructed to walk by faith and not by sight.

As we continue to read this chapter in the book of Hebrews, verse 6 tells us that without FAITH it is impossible to please God because it is that same faith that has helped believe in God. Faith not only will draw us to God and empower us to believe who He is but also, help us have confidence and hope in what He has promised.

And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (TPT)

It is FAITH what moves and pleases God.

-In Luke 7 we read about Jesus being marveled by a centurion’s FAITH.

-In Mark 5 we read about a woman suffering from a disease made well by her FAITH.

-In Matthew 17 we read about Jesus telling His disciples that if they have FAITH the size of a mustard seed the mountain shall move.

In the book of Romans we read something remarkable and reassuring to those who continue to cling to their faith and promises of God. In Romans 4:3, Paul gives us an example, Abraham, of someone who has been “rewarded” because of his faith in God.

Romans 4:3 TPT
Listen to what the Scriptures say: Because Abraham believed God’s words, his faith transferred God’s righteousness into his account.

Because Abraham fixed his eyes on the promise giver, he had the strength to believe even without any tangible evidence that the promise would come to fruition. Because Abraham anchored his hope, confidence and assurance in the “unseen,” he was not only justified but his faith is credited as righteousness. Wow, isn’t God amazing?!?!

When our faith starts to waver it’s because we have taken our eyes of God and His promises.

While we are waiting to SEE the mountain move in order to believe, God is waiting for us to believe first, have FAITH, in order for us to SEE the mountain move.

We live in a world where culture is constantly trying to tell us to “follow your heart.” As believers and followers of Jesus we have to be careful that we are not falling into the mindset and patterns of this world. We are not people guided by “our heart” or “feelings.” We have the promise of the Holy Spirit and the beautiful truth and revelation of God’s Word.

The first time I read this Psalm I was very intrigued by the fact that David is saying he is hiding God’s Word in his heart.

Why his heart?

The ESV translation says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
The Amplified translation says, “Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not go sin against You. Wow, to me this means that in order for me to consider storing something in my heart I must consider it as valuable first. Isn’t God’s Word amazing?

During my time with God and meditation of this specific verse, God showed me that the reason we are to “store” His Word in our heart is because our heart is the root of our sin, sinful nature, sinful habits.
* In Jeremiah 17:9 we read, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
* Well, GOD UNDERSTANDS IT. He KNOWS that we need a new heart and that’s why He promises to give us a NEW HEART. In Jeremiah we also read that God replaces our heart of stone for a heart of flesh.

So how does that transformation take place?

First step is to giving God access to our heart. In Psalm 139 we read David is asking God to search His heart. “Search me, God, and know my heart...” Psalm 139:23
Why? Because God is the one who created us; He knows us better than anyone else, including ourselves.

Second step is asking God to remove the wickedness in our heart. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

The Greek word for pure is katharós.

katharós (a primitive word) – properly, "without admixture" (BAGD); what is separated (purged), hence "clean" (pure) because unmixed (without undesirable elements); (figuratively) spiritually clean because purged (purified by God), i.e. free from the contaminating (soiling) influences of sin.

In order for us to be able to fill anything it MUST be emptied first.

Third, now that the impurities of our heart have been removed our hearts are more receptive to not only storing God’s word in our heart but also yielding to it and honoring it as the ultimate authority over our life.

It is then that we will see our heart being transformed by God’s Word.
Trusting Him, His Word and not leaning on our own understanding or the patterns of this world.

I believe that initially when we surrender our lives to Christ we are more obedient to leaning in and wanting to hear the voice of the Lord. As time progresses, we drown out His voice and become less receptive to it. We allow the noise of our trials, tribulations, our fears, doubts and OUR SIN become louder than His voice. We see prayer as a last resort, we see reading His word as another "thing" to mark off on our to do list and worship has become only a 20 minute experience at church.

Today, if God's voice seems distant or you simply can't hear it all. It's not that he has stopped speaking, we have simply stopped leaning in to hear what He has to say. Today, slow down and lean in to those verses that initially drew you to Him, turn on the songs that filled your spirit with His presence, recall all those moments that the Lord's graciousness brought you to your knees. Seclude yourself for a few mins, whether it's in your car, prayer closet, park, etc.
Don't wait 'til you have time, make the time; shut down the noise that's drowning His voice.

God is speaking, are you listening??
