Our sponsored child, Emely, lives in the Dominican Republic...where Hurricane Irma made landfall. Please pray for Emely and her family. Here is a letter I received from Compassion International about what is going on in the D.R.:
Dear Jason,
On Thursday, Category 5 Hurricane Irma made landfall in northern parts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Heavy rains and strong winds forced thousands of children and families to flee their homes and take refuge in evacuation shelters. The homes they left behind have been damaged and destroyed, leaving some with nowhere to go when the rains subside. Even as Hurricane Irma moves on, continued storm surges are leaving a trail of destruction in the form of flooding, landslides and power outages.
Compassion is committed to the long-term care of each child registered in our program. In the coming days and weeks, our partner church staff will visit children’s homes, assess their families’ needs and guide us as we provide for the families we serve in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. If your child is impacted, we will reach out to notify you.
Those affected by this catastrophic storm need our prayers. Will you join us today in praying for:
Church staff and emergency workers as they reach out to those suffering in the wake of this disaster.
Families who have been displaced by the storm, that they will quickly find shelter and protection.
Good health as children and their families struggle to find sources of clean water.
Compassion sponsors and supporters in the path of Hurricane Irma as it closes in on the Southeastern United States.
I know Emely and her family would appreciate your prayers right now. Thank you for your commitment to serving and ministering to children in poverty, especially in times like these.
May God bless you beyond measure for your faithfulness to His children.
