WCS Members and guests were treated to a lively and informative presentation about TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tuscaloosa) at the August 16, 2026 Unit meeting.
Dr. Margo Malone shared information about this unique non-profit organization which provides equine-assisted therapy and horseback riding for individuals with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities, including veterans with PTSD and children in foster care.
TROT was the recipient of a $1400.00 contribution from the proceeds of the March 2026 WCS Mission Market.
This contribution is just one example of how the efforts of WCS members fulfill one of the purposes of the organization :
to carry God's love into the world through participation in mission projects and educational programs.

A Thriving Thursday afternoon of Culture and Cream..... Ice Cream that is!
Our group of 12 visited the Dinah Washington Center where Daniel White and Kevin L shared information about the Center, the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, the current featured exhibits, and the richness of our local arts community.
On to the Lorri Lane Studio and Galley. This is a working studio. Lorri was there to talk about her background, her work, and her connection to the Tuscaloosa-Northport community.
The piece de resistance was Ice Cream delights at The Parlor, owned and operated by Christy Foster.
There was plenty of time to visit with each other and to share ideas about art and a host of other topics. We all agreed it was a fun outing and a fun group of people to spend the afternoon with

Many thanks to Dr. Beverly Thorn, PhD who provided an interesting, informative and inspiring presentation as our guest speaker at the April 19th WCS Unit meeting.
Dr. Thorn's presentation , and her book , "Before I Lose My Own Mind", centered around her personal experience as a dementia caregiver for her late husband Walt.

We were also pleased to have LaDerrick Smith, Executive Director of Caring Days attend the presentation. Caring Days is an adult day care center for those with Alzheimer's and other memory disorders. Saint Mark has long been a supporter of this organization.

Our WCS Book Club enjoyed an interesting and engaging discussion of this month's book "Theo of Golden".
Our discussion was facilitated by Tahnya Bell. It was uplifting to share insights and impressions from our individual reading of Allen Levi's best selling novel which he describes as being about "real love for others".
The next WCS Book Club meeting will be Thursday, May 14th in the Parlor. The book to be discussed is ""Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt.
