“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8
I love being Pentecostal. I love watching the spirit of God move in and through people. I love seeing someone's life completely changed as the Holy Spirit transforms them. I love praying and the Holy Spirit moving and interceding in my prayer. At times, I feel like Paul when he said, “I speak in tongues more than you all” I love the power that God has provided for His people through His promise.
But if we aren't careful, we can let that impartation of the Holy Spirit in our lives become an end in itself rather than the beginning of a calling God has placed on each and every believer. Holy Spirit baptism is the beginning of a life on mission, a life that is devoted to seeing the world saved and come to the knowledge of the saving grace of Jesus.
We see this happen in Acts chapter 2. They’ve received the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter preached a message, and thousands were saved. But it didn't end there; they didn't look for the next big revival night to get the same goosebumps again. Instead, the believers devoted themselves to DAILY gatherings, teaching, and prayer. They didn't just receive the holy spirit and then wait to go to heaven. No, they went out and showed everyone the power they had received, and scripture tells us that God added to their numbers daily!
The power of Pentecost is not just personal empowerment but is meant to help us reach the world. So this month, as we pray, ask God to provide opportunities to see people saved, to live on mission, and to fulfill the Great Commission.
