Trinity Sunday!
It is a day for giving thanks and praise to our triune God and we invite you to join us at 10:00 am in our sanctuary or on the livestream at thegoodshepherd.org

I am bending my knee
In the eye of the Maker who created me,
In the eye of the Son who purchased me,
In the eye of the Spirit who cleansed me,
In friendship and affection.
Through thine own Anointed One, O God,
Bestow upon us fullness in our need,

Love towards God,
The affection of God,
The smile of God,
The wisdom of God,
The grace of God,
And the will of God
To do on the world of the Three,
As angels and saints do in heaven;
Each shade and light,
Each day and night,
Each time in kindness,
Give thou us thy Spirit.
Amen.
~from Carmina Gadelica (a collection of early and traditional prayers, blessings, poems and songs from the Gaelic speaking people of Scotland).

The image is from iconographer Kelli Latimore - reimagining the Trinity as three women gathered together - tender, strong, and deeply connected. It stretches our assumptions and reminds us that no single human image can fully contain God.

Pentecost Sunday

Today, we pray that the wind will blow through our eaves, tongues of fire will ignite our passion for possibility and the Spirit will disturb us with such subversive elements as joy... strength... peace ...patience ...courage ...reverence ...deep listening ...wisdom...just to name a few! May the whole cosmos be bathed in the gifts and grace of the Spirit today.

Your Spirit Lord is truth:
May it make us free.

Your Spirit Lord is fire:
May it enkindle us with your love.

Your Spirit Lord is gentleness:
may it bring us peace.

Your Spirit Lord renews the face of the earth:
may it renew the depths of our hearts.

Your Spirit Lord is prayer:
May it open our hearts to give praise.

Your Spirit Lord fills the whole universe:
May it live among us forever.
Amen. Alleluia!

Fifth Sunday of Eastertide...

A beautiful reflection and blessing from Jan Richardson based on today's Gospel from John 14:1-14.

For you as we approach the fifth Sunday of Easter: a blessing with plenty of space in it, and room enough to hold us all.

BLESSING WITH MANY ROOMS

As you step inside
this blessing
we wish to tell you
it is large enough
for you to lie down in.

Or
(though it may not look it,
small as it is upon this page)
you can curl up
in this blessing
with a cup of tea
and a good book
beside the window—
here, just behind you—
that faces east.

Likewise it is true,
though you might not have
paused long enough
to notice,
that this blessing
is big enough
for a table—
quite a sizable one
can be accommodated—
where your guests
will want to linger
far into the night.

And if they desire to stay,
you will find that
through this door—
you did not see it before?—
there are rooms in plenty
where they can
lay their heads
and stretch out with abandon
in their dreaming sleep.

One room,
many rooms—
in this blessing
it is all the same.
The point is that
there is space
enough.

Enough to make
a life, a home;
enough to make
a world.

Enough to make
your way toward
the One who has made
this way for you."
~ Jan Richardson

4th Sunday of Easter
“I am the gate…”

Think about the fields you’ve seen—or maybe grew up around—cows grazing, meadows stretching wide, and gates always somewhere nearby. For those of us who walk often, gates are part of our daily rhythm—opening, closing, passing through.

Every gate has a purpose.

As I sat with Jesus’ words from today’s Gospel, I found myself wandering the property in my imagination—thinking about all the gates: how they’re built, how they hold, how they move, how they welcome or protect. Each one, when opened, leads somewhere—a new space, a place with intention…a safe enclosure, a haven, even a kind of home. And yes—for the lucky cows—plenty of green, juicy pasture.

“I am the gate,” says Jesus.

What a rich and inviting image—one that calls us into the walk and work of a lifetime.

So where am I in relation to this gate?
Am I standing outside, peering in?
Lingering nearby?
Or stepping through into the life Jesus promises—abundant, spacious, alive?

And if I’m hesitating…what’s holding me back?
Do the hinges need a little oil? A little courage? A little trust?

This image is full of movement and purpose and promise.

Maybe today is a good day to find a gate—real or imagined—and give it a good swing. Sit with it. Notice it. Step through.

How’s your gate doing?
