Happy Sabbath to you all! Feeling particularly thankful for this wet and a bit humid gloomy day! 🙏 we hope you can join us for worship at 10:00 am in our sanctuary or on the livestream at thegoodsheoherd.org.

We return to the The Hundred Acre Wood where we spend time with our wonderfully gloomy friend Eeyore. Eeyore may not bounce like Tigger or approach life with Pooh’s easy contentment, but he brings his own spiritual gifts to his friends in the Wood. Today we’ll consider what the perpetually gray little donkey might teach us about presence, honesty, and staying with one another…even when life isn’t particularly bouncy!

Grace and peace to you all and we hope you will join us for worship at 10:00 this morning either in our sanctuary or online at thegoodshepherd.org. This morning we wrap up our series, The Gospel According to Peanuts with everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy.

After watching Snoopy climb onto his doghouse and suddenly transform it into a Sopwith Camel, chasing the Red Baron through the skies, we can’t help but smile. To everyone else, it’s just an old doghouse. But to Snoopy, it’s an adventure waiting to happen.

Maybe that’s one of the greatest gifts of faith. The Kingdom of God begins with the imagination to see beyond what is—to glimpse what could be. Jesus tells us that God’s Kingdom often starts small, hidden, and easily overlooked… like a mustard seed, a pinch of yeast, or perhaps even an ordinary doghouse.

This morning, let’s discover what Snoopy’s joyful imagination can teach us about recognizing the surprising, playful, and life-changing ways God is at work all around us.

An Open Hand

Jesus doesn’t promise us an easy road, but he does promise we’ll never walk it alone.

Today’s Gospel reminds us to share the Good News boldly—out in the daylight and even from the rooftops! Not everyone will welcome love, justice, mercy, and hope, but Jesus tells us not to be afraid.

After all…

🐦 Are you not worth more than many sparrows?
💇‍♀️ Has not every hair on your head been counted?

God knows you. God loves you. God treasures you.

So take heart, dear friends. Speak kindness. Live compassion. Choose hope. And remember: you are deeply known and extravagantly loved.

💕 There is no need to be afraid.

World Refugee Day! Honoring the strength, resilience, and courage of millions of people around the globe who have been forced to flee their home countries due to war, conflict, and persecution.

Today is World Refugee Day

“The refugee is not a number, he is a man, he is a woman, he is a child, a family, a people who are suffering. It is possible to see in the migrants of our time, as in those of every age, a living image of God’s people on their way to the eternal homeland.”
-Pope Francis

We are all icons of God. We all have the ‘imago dei’, the Image of God, within us. For Jesus too was a refugee. For all Refugees, Lord Have Mercy.

Here we are, back in "ordinary time" on Sundays once again...liturgically at least! Since Lent began, we have been celebrating all manner of seasons and feasts and now, we return to the more regular pattern of numbering off the "ordinary" weeks until Advent begins later in the year.

The talk of ordinary time, always reminds me of a professor of theology who regularly set us some sort of activity in class so she could wander over to the window and look out across the beautiful campus. After a while, she would exclaim "the ordinary is extraordinary"! We would all pause a moment, smile at each other and get back to work. I have never forgotten her words and the very ordinary moments which preceded them. I love the "extraordinary" in the midst of Ordinary Time...may it be so for you too!

The scripture today is grounded in the compassion of Jesus who saw that the people were 'harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.' In response Jesus asks for prayer that the Lord will send labourers to his harvest for there are too many to care for and not enough workers. He calls his twelve to him. The number 12 means completion: the twelve tribes of Israel, the twelve apostles and the twelve baskets of food left over after the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Fullness and completion.
He then lays out the mission not only of the 12, but also all disciples:
“Go to the lost sheep of the House of Israel, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand, cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge. Give without charge.”

Pentecost Sunday

Today, we pray that the wind will blow through our eaves, tongues of fire will ignite our passion for possibility and the Spirit will disturb us with such subversive elements as joy... strength... peace ...patience ...courage ...reverence ...deep listening ...wisdom...just to name a few! May the whole cosmos be bathed in the gifts and grace of the Spirit today.

Your Spirit Lord is truth:
May it make us free.

Your Spirit Lord is fire:
May it enkindle us with your love.

Your Spirit Lord is gentleness:
may it bring us peace.

Your Spirit Lord renews the face of the earth:
may it renew the depths of our hearts.

Your Spirit Lord is prayer:
May it open our hearts to give praise.

Your Spirit Lord fills the whole universe:
May it live among us forever.
