"Did the Spirit of God ever convince you of sin? Do you see yourself liable to the curse of the law, and the just vengeance of God, for the innate depravity of your nature, and the transgressions of your life? Do you come to Christ humbled and self-condemned; sensible that unless you are clothed with the merits of Him our Elder Brother, you are ruined and undone, and can never stand with joy or safety before the holy Lord God? If so, lift up thy head; redemption is thine; thou art in a state of grace; thou art translated from death to life; thou art an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ. But, if you never felt, nor desire to feel, this work of the Holy Ghost upon thy heart, this conviction of sin, this penitential faith, all the supposed righteousness of thine own, wherein thou trusted, is but a broken reed; a painted sepulchre; and the trappings of a Pharisee."

~ August Toplady (1740-1778) writer of the hymn "Rock of Ages"

Astonishing! Can you imagine being starved in a dark dungeon until you physically cannot stand, only to miraculously rise up and walk firmly to the fire to be burned alive?

What happens when a devoted Roman Catholic priest reads the Scriptures and completely changes his theology?

In 1555, for a man named Robert Samuel, it meant an immediate death sentence.

Robert was once a fully ordained priest of Rome.

But after deeply studying the Bible, he came to a radical, unshakeable conviction: salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone.

He couldn't keep it a secret, and his bold confession cost him everything.

He was violently seized and thrown into a freezing, dark prison.

His enemies didn't just want to kill him; they wanted to break his spirit.

They withheld food and water, starving and abusing him so severely that his body wasted away.

He grew so incredibly thin and physically weak that he was literally no longer able to stand on his own two feet.

When the terrifying day of his ex*****on finally arrived in Ipswich, his persecutors expected to have to drag a broken, weeping man to the fire.

Instead, something completely remarkable occurred.

Though he had been utterly unable to walk in his dungeon, Robert Samuel supernaturally rose to his feet!

Filled with a sudden, unexplainable strength, he walked firmly and confidently straight to the ex*****oner's stake!

He was bound tightly to the wooden post.

As the crackling flames were kindled and began to rise around him, he didn't look down at the fire.

He lifted his eyes directly toward heaven.

Trusting entirely in the Lord Jesus Christ...

He endured the agonizing fire with steadfast, unshakeable faith until his earthly suffering finally ended.

This former priest didn't just preach the Gospel; he sealed his powerful testimony with his own blood!

“By frequent meditation of God's eternity, we should become more sensible of the trifling nature of the world. The proffers of the world are ridiculous when compared with the eternity of God.”

"The more purely God's word is preached, the more deeply it picrceth, the more kindly it worketh." — 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦 𝐆𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐞, 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑒𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑤𝑠 (1866 ed.) 1:324 Vol. on Heb. 4:12 [pictured: George Harvey, 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠' 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔]

1; Picture your life—every moment—projected on a screen before God. There is nowhere to look away. Words you can’t take back. Sins you thought no one saw. The record reads line by line—charge after charge—until your chest tightens under the weight. You excuse your sin, but there is no excuse—no loophole, no hiding. God’s verdict stands guilty. You have broken His Law; you have no righteousness. If you die as you are, you are condemned. Yet you compare yourself to others and promise, “I’ll try harder. I’ll be better—then God will favor me.” If God grants your eyes to see, you will see it plainly: you have broken His Law and neglected Him..
2: Some think they’re better than others because they’ve “done things right” and kept most of the law. They tell themselves, “God sees I tried, so He will be merciful. “God is a god of love certainly he will see I am not a bad person. Some even think they deserve mercy because they can point to their works and claim they’re good enough.
What we see in both illustrations #1 I am not good enough #2 I am not bad enough.
This message reminds #1 There is no one good . The message for #2 No one is justified by the law for the law is the knowledge of Sin. Not! to gain Justification! James 2:10: For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.

What if your entire life was exposed before a holy God—every thought, word, and hidden sin—with no way to defend yourself? Some people believe: “I’m not good ...
