Northfield Church Of Christ, Northfield, NJ

Northfield Church Of Christ, Northfield, NJ We are a non-denominational, Bible based congregation based on the first century church that Christ created. We would sincerely appreciate your being with us.

We observe the Lord‘s supper every first day of the week, and we sing aca****la. We also have a Spanish speaking service at 1 PM every Sunday. We pray that the worship will bless and encourage you. We also hope that you will want to return. Perhaps you are not familiar with the worship in a congregation of the Church of Christ. We know that the unfamiliar can be distracting and confusing. As we pr

aise God and honor Jesus Christ, we do not want you to be distracted or confused. A Ca****la Singing
One of the unique features of the churches of Christ is our a ca****la singing. This is simply singing without the accompaniment of musical instruments in our worship assemblies. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the singing as we praise God and Christ. As we sing, we want our spirits to commune with God through His Spirit. We pray that you will find the music both beautiful and meaningful. The Lord’s Supper
Another uniqueness is that each Sunday we remember Jesus' sacrifice and celebrate our resulting freedom from sin by participating together in the Lord's Supper, or Communion. During this time we will partake of unleavened bread. This bread represents the "body of Christ" which the Apostle Paul teaches corresponds to the church. (Participants will find communion cups in the entranceway)and meditate upon their relationship with the church for which Jesus sacrifice Himself. Next, we will partake of the cup. These cups contain grape juice that represent "the new convenant in Jesus' blood." Each participant drinks the contents of one cup and remembers the promise they made with God during their immersion for their sins' forgiveness. The Lord's Supper is offered to baptized believers each Sunday as Jesus commanded. Prayer and Scripture Reading
Through prayer and reading the Bible, we talk to and listen to God. During worship, selected men will lead us in these activities. Most worshipers participate by simply bowing their heads during the prayer, however, you are welcome to assume whatever submissive posture you are comfortable with in prayer. You are encouraged to follow the Bible readings in your own Bible or one of the Bibles provided in the pews. Weekly Contribution
Each Sunday, there is a plate up front to collect the weekly tithe of our members, which support the many ministries here at our church. We do not expect our guests to contribute. If they choose to contribute, we gratefully accept their gift. However, the work of this congregation is the responsibility of its members. Sermon
We have an exhortation that helps to focus on building a stronger spiritual life. Most Sundays our minister, Mark Seim, delivers the sermon. Song of Meditation and Commitment
At the conclusion of the sermon, we sing a song to allow for each of us to think about our relationship with God and the many ways He enriches our lives. People are invited to respond by coming to the front of the Auditorium for immersion for the forgiveness of their sins, prayer, or to indicate a desire to become a member of our church family. We understand that Christ's invitation is open every day, every hour. Any time is the appropriate time for prayer or baptism. If you wish further explanation about our worship or any aspect of Christian life, we would welcome an opportunity to study the Bible and share Christ with you. Ask any member to introduce you to the minister or congregational leaders. Or you may call the church office at (609) 646-1181. Our address is 2535 Shore Road, Northfield, New Jersey 08225, USA. Or we will be happy to respond by e-mail.

Good Morning to all,

It is a mostly clear 70 here in NJ this morning. It will be a mostly sunny and breezy day with highs in the low 80s.

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matt.3:2).

John the Baptist, being full of the Holy Spirit, was telling the people in the wilderness to be prepared, "the kingdom of heaven was at hand." This indicates that is was very near. Shortly after, Jesus, after His temptation, entered the region of Galilee preaching the same message. "From that time Jesus began to preach and say, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.' " (Matt.4:17). Jesus later alludes to this point in time when He says this; "The Law and the prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it." (Lk.16:16). Later, Jesus spoke to Peter in the "future tense" when He said, "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatsoever you loose on earth, shall have been loosed in heaven." (Matt.16:19). The keys required to "unlock the kingdom" were obviously not in the hands of those who Jesus intended to use them. The "keys to the kingdom," is a reference to the unlocking, unveiling, or revealing the mystery kept under lock and key though not specifically stated in these words. We will look more closely at these important keys to His kingdom next time.

Have a great start to your week. Begin it with a RAK or two... LOve mark Phil.4:11

MARRIAGE
Marriage can bring great joy, but it also can be challenging. In trying moments some couples turn to the Bible
for wisdom and direction. But there are couples who rely on "Their" own wisdom, what they have
experienced, or seen in other relationships. This is not to say that a Christian marriage won't have its
difficulties and some marriages end in divorce, but that is because someone has succumbed to the will of Satan.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Hebrews 13:4, Mark 10:9, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Genesis 1:27-28)
Immature Wife: Argues to prove she’s right, blames instead of reflecting, competes with her husband, seeks
constant attention, uses emotions to manipulate, gets offended easily and thinks love should overlook
wrongdoing.
Mature Wife: (Titus 2:5, 1 Timothy 3:11, Colossians 3:18, Ephesians 5:22-24, Proverbs 19:14,
Proverbs 3:15) Communicates to find peace, takes responsibility gracefully, supports her husband' growth,
values emotional connection, expresses feeling with clarity, understands before reacting knows love is about
effort.
Immature Husband: Argues over everything, reacts without thinking, blames instead of owning mistakes,
wants control not partnership, avoids difficult conversations, breaks trust easily, loves with ego.
Mature Husband: (Ephesians 5:25, Genesis 2:24, Proverbs 18:22, 1 Peter 3:7, Proverbs 31:10-31)
Chooses understanding over arguments, responds calmly, takes responsibility, faces problems instead of
running, gives reassurance without being asked, protects trust like a priority builds the relationship not drama,
loves with effort not ego, takes responsibility, creates peace and stability.
Prince of Peace
Do not think that I have come to bring peace
to the earth. I have not come to bring peace,
but a sword.
Matthew 10:34
The most common question about this verse
which I as a preacher receive usually goes
something like this: “How can Jesus say this
when he is the Prince of Peace and the
angels were talking about peace on earth the
night he was born?”
The prince of peace promoted peace, but sinful men
have done their own thing.
Good question, and the biblical answer
revolves around context (as is usually the
case with most questions about what the
Bible says.) Yes, Jesus is the fulfillment of
Isaiah’s messianic prophecy about the Prince
of Peace (Is. 9:6). Yes, Jesus and his apostles
promoted peace in their teachings (Matt. 5:9;
Rom. 14:19; 2 Cor. 13:11; Gal. 5:22; Eph.
2:14-17; 4:3; 1 Thess. 5:13; 2 Tim. 2:22).
So why does Jesus seemingly contradict
himself by saying, “Do not think that I
have come to bring peace to the earth”?
This verse comes in the middle of a discourse
in which Christ is sending his twelve apostles
throughout Israel to preach the gospel of the
kingdom and is telling them what to expect
(Matt. 10:1ff). He warned them that they
will suffer severe persecution due to
preaching his message…but to not fear
because God is with them (vs. 16-33). It is in
that context – the context of warning them
about how sinful men will react to God’s
message that they preach – that he tells them
that he has come to bring a sword rather than
peace to the earth. Immediately after making
that statement, he alluded to how even
families will be divided because some will
heed his message while others will not (vs.
35-39).
Thus, the lack of peace comes not directly
because of Jesus, but because sinful men
reject his teachings of peace.
What was true then is true today.
I just read of a Christian missionary who was
hacked to death by a husband simply for
baptizing his wife. Faithful Christians have
always been disowned, ostracized, fired, spit
upon, bullied, beaten, or killed for simply
following the teachings of Jesus Christ,
teachings which promote love, peace, unity,
harmony, and good will towards all…yet also
have the nerve to say that some actions and
attitudes of men are wrong and will lead to
hell. Sinful people don’t like to be told that
they’re wrong, and will react in non-peaceful
ways to those who tell them so, no matter
how lovingly and peacefully. That’s why
following and proclaiming the teachings of
Jesus will bring a sword rather than peace.
It’s not Jesus’ fault that happens. It’s ours.
How do you react to the teachings of
Christ…especially when they step on your
toes?

Good Mornin to all,

It is a mostly clear 73 here in NJ this morning. It will be a mostly sunny day with highs in the mid 90s. There's a chance of some late afternoon thunderstorms.

"As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. And He was saying to them, 'To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables.' " (Mk.4:10-11).

A study of Jesus' Mediatorship would not be complete without considering the realm the Lord adds His subjects to. Why? Because it is this realm, the church, that enables each of us to benefit from His intercessory role. "But Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end." (Heb.3:6). With that, we examine the mediatorial role of Jesus as King with a kingdom. This kingdom, the church and its citizenry were planned before time, and the New Testament brings this into clear focus. Today's verses follow Jesus' Parable of the Sower and the Soils. Matthew's account would later add this; "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world." (13:35). Jesus, through the parables revealed that which "was hidden." He was able to reveal this fact, and vouch for it because He had been part of the creating and planning process that took place "since the foundation of the world." Through the wonder of God's perfect plan, we are the beneficiaries of Jesus' intercessory role as a part of His kingdom here on earth, the church, complete with a hope that is firm until the end.

Have a great day... T G. I. F... Today. God. Is. First.... LOve mark Phil.4:11

Make a covenant!
TodayArticleDavid SprouleThought for the Day
When God looked down at His “servant Job,” His evaluation of this man was that he was “a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8). Job wasn’t perfect. But he cared deeply about the ways of God and walking faithfully with Him. As such, this man proclaimed, “I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?” (Job 31:1).
Have you made a covenant with your eyes?
Have you set forth a contract with your eyes about what you will and will not gaze upon?
Have you established the boundaries, and have you given guidance to your eyes as to what to do when something inappropriate in the eyes of God appears before your own eyes?
Have you determined consequences for violating that covenant?
Your heart, which sets the direction of your life (Prov. 4:23), needs to control “where” your eyes look and “how” they look and “how long” they look (Matt. 5:28; Psa. 101:3), so that your mind and your body do not sin against your God (Matt. 6:22-23; Gen. 39:9; Psa. 51:4).
Imagine God saying about you what He said about Job!

Good Morning to all,

It is a mostly cloudy 70 here in NJ this morning. It will be a partly cloudy day with highs in the low to mid 90s.

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has been granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust." (2 Pet.1:2-4).

We could study a lot more regarding the rule and reign of Jesus, our High Priest. When one makes a study of the Levitical priesthood, and compares it to the statements the writer of the book of Hebrews makes, one can fully comprehend the true depth and meaning of the New Testament comparisons that are made. What we ought to take away from this examination is that the Mediator is Jesus the High Priest. Here is what I think is so important to us; Since the Father appointed Jesus to both offices, we are able to better understand the love They both have for the eternal welfare of mankind, and a deeper appreciation for what has and is being done. With that we can look at today's verses and come away with what the Lord has done for us. It also underscores the love He demonstrated enabling us to become the benefactors of "everything pertaining to life and godliness." How and why? "Through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence and that you may become partakers of the divine nature" What a blessing it is to all of us who believe, what has been done for us that we can live godly lives in hope that we will live eternally with the Lord. Amen.

Have a great day. Let His light shine through you... LOve mark Phil.4:11

Few subjects generate more resistance than faithfulness in worship attendance. Every church building has a silent sermon written across its pews. There are far fewer empty seats in the morning than there are in the evening. It is not because the Bible is unclear, but because many Christians find themselves caught between two worlds, called to live spiritually while allowing secular priorities to crowd out eternal priorities.

Beyond the command to assemble lies a simple yet powerful truth: when your seat is empty, something God intended to be present is missing.

“Then Jonathan said to David, ‘Tomorrow is the New Moon; and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.’” — 1 Samuel 20:18

Those are striking words.

David was absent from the feast because his life was in danger. Saul’s jealousy had turned admiration into animosity and praise into pursuit. The one who should have protected David now sought to destroy him. As David fled for his life, Jonathan informed him that his absence would be noticed: “You will be missed, because your seat will be empty.”

David’s empty seat said something.

It reminded everyone that someone who belonged there was not there. The same is true in the Lord’s church.

When a Christian is absent from the assembly, more is missing than a body in a pew. An empty seat represents encouragement withheld, influence diminished, worship silenced, and opportunities lost. The absence of one faithful Christian leaves a void that no one else can completely fill.

You Will Be Missed Because Your Encouragement Will Be Absent

One of the primary purposes of assembling is to “consider one another in order to stir up love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Christianity was never intended to be lived in isolation. The early church “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship” (Acts 2:42), strengthening one another through shared faith and mutual encouragement.

Every handshake, every smile, every conversation, every prayer, and every word of encouragement strengthens someone. Paul instructed Christians to “edify one another” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). We often underestimate the power of our presence. Someone may come to worship weary, discouraged, or struggling. Your presence may be exactly what they need.

When you are absent, your encouragement is absent too.

You Will Be Missed Because Your Worship Will Be Silent

God deserves the praise of His people. Throughout the New Testament, Christians assembled to worship together. They gathered on the first day of the week to break bread (Acts 20:7). They sang praises to God (Ephesians 5:19), taught and admonished one another in song (Colossians 3:16), prayed together (Acts 12:5), and gave as they had been prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

When your seat is empty, a voice that should be praising God is missing from the chorus. The church sings differently when faithful voices are absent.

You Will Be Missed Because Your Influence Will Be Weakened

Whether we realize it or not, our actions preach sermons every day. Faithful attendance says, “God matters. Worship matters. The church matters.” Absence communicates a message as well.

Jesus taught, “Let your light so shine before men” (Matthew 5:16). Paul urged believers to be “examples to the believers” (1 Timothy 4:12). Children notice. New converts notice. Visitors notice. Fellow Christians notice.

The influence of a faithful life often extends far beyond what we can see.

You Will Be Missed Because Your Service Will Be Lacking

The kingdom advances when God’s people work together. Every congregation depends upon members who serve, teach, pray, visit, encourage, give, and labor for the Lord.

Paul described the church as a body, with every member supplying something essential (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). He further explained that the body grows when “every joint supplies” what God intended it to contribute (Ephesians 4:16).

When one part is missing, the whole body feels it.

You Will Be Missed Because Your Soul Needs the Assembly

Perhaps the greatest loss is not what the congregation misses from you, but what you miss from the congregation.

You miss the prayers.
You miss the fellowship.
You miss the teaching.
You miss the encouragement.
You miss the spiritual strength that comes from gathering with God’s people.

The Hebrews writer did not merely command Christians to assemble; he connected the assembly with perseverance, faithfulness, and spiritual endurance (Hebrews 10:23-25). The early disciples were known for their continual devotion to worship and fellowship (Acts 2:42, 46).

God never intended His children to walk alone.

The devil has convinced many Christians that attendance is optional. God presents it as essential.

A Final Thought

The next time you consider leaving your seat empty, remember Jonathan’s words to David:

“You will be missed, because your seat will be empty.”

An empty seat is never merely an empty seat.

It is encouragement not given (Hebrews 10:24-25).
A prayer not offered (Acts 2:42).
A song not sung (Colossians 3:16).
A lesson not heard (Acts 20:7).
An example not seen (Matthew 5:16).
A work not accomplished (Ephesians 4:16).
A soul not strengthened (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

The church is strongest when the church is together. That is why the first Christians assembled. That is why faithful Christians still assemble. And that is why, when your seat is empty, you will be missed.
