In Tapachula, Mexico, the Apostolic Sisters of the Heart of Jesus are helping Haitian migrants learn Spanish while providing a welcoming space where they can find community, guidance and practical support. The Intercultural Space for Basic Spanish has grown into a network of sisters, local volunteers and Haitian teachers, many of whom first arrived as students themselves. "This space became their home, where the family comes together," said Sister Ana Barboza, who leads the program. The center also helps migrants navigate documents, housing, employment and the challenges of Mexico's immigration system.

In Tapachula, Mexico, a house serves as a school that offers Spanish classes. The house has also become a gathering place for a community of Haitians.

Rev. Eduardo Fabian Arias often is walking through the hallways at a New York City immigration court introducing himself and handing out small business cards of information to immigrants who lacked lawyers. Today he is rushing to get one man's name when he was arrested in court so that Arias could notify the family. Since becoming a pastor in Manhattan, Arias has made immigrant accompaniment a central part of his ministry. A few days each week, he goes to Federal Plaza, where he sits in on immigration hearings, checks whether people have attorneys, serves as a translator and gathers information when a person is detained. "I understand that this country needs to have order. That's fine. But one thing is order, and another thing is abusing human beings," said Arias, a Lutheran pastor at Saint Peter's Church in Midtown Manhattan. "We need to have order, but we need to respect the human being."

A deadly gang attack near Haiti's capital should cause the United States to "rethink" its ending of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitians, said Archbishop Thomas Wenski — Archbishop of Miami and CLINIC board member. "This shows that the country is not safe, that Haiti is still a house on fire," Wenski said. The archbishop pointed to a recent bill before the Senate that, if passed, would extend TPS for Haiti through early 2029. The legislation "would pass very easily" if President Donald Trump "would voice his support," he said.
