Our rector, Fr. Cody, and Rob Hardy, the former Poet Laureate of Northfield, were interviewed today on KYMN Radio about a choral anthem that All Saints commissioned based on Rob’s poem ‘Communion.’ Our choir will sing the world premiere of this piece on March 22nd, during the 10:30am Holy Eucharist for the Fifth Sunday in Lent. All are welcome!

Communion
by Rob Hardy

There’s no bread.
The bakers have gone into hiding.
The seats at the table are empty.
The Twelve are marching with the thousands.
The streets are filled with a new song.
Only Judas sits at Target Plaza, counting his silver,
while Pontius Pilate issues a carefully-worded statement.
Meanwhile the centurions have quotas to fill.
But out on the streets there’s a Communion.
Jesus takes the city in his hands and says,
“This is my body, broken for you.”

Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church Cody Maynus and former Northfield Poet Laureate Rob Hardy discuss one of Hardy's poems being set to music, premiering this Sunday at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Here is Fr. James Young's sermon from today:

Perhaps now is the time for a checkup for our spiritual vision as Holy Week is now on the horizon. A time for letting go of the presumptions that cause us to say like the Pharisees, “Surely we are not blind are we?”

In the words of the 9th century hymn ( #504 in our Hymnal), let us pray:

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire and lighten with celestial fire;
Enable with perpetual light, the dullness of our blinded sight.

The Rev. James Young, Priest Associate
