Dear CRUSY Community:
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share with you the news of the passing CRUSY alumnus,
Samuel Gawel (CRUSY Class of 2019)
To know Sam was to love Sam. Sam had the ability to put a smile on the face of anybody who came into contact with him. Each and every USYer who was lucky enough to spend time with Sam is a better person for it. Sam was a dedicated member of MCUSY and co-chaired CRUSY's Regional Convention his senior year. More importantly, Sam was somebody that each and every member of CRUSY looked up to. His presence and his smile will forever be missed.
Outside of USY, Sam was adored by his parents, Randy & Leah, his sister, Sophia (CRUSY class of 2018), his puppies, Charlie and Walter, and his extended family and friends. Sam was a senior at Dartmouth College, where he was a double major in Earth Science & Anthropology. He was an outdoor enthusiast whose passions included meteorology and snow sciences. His favorite past times were hiking with inadequate supplies, spending time with family and friends, traveling with no plan, cooking exotic foods that produced endless kitchen messes, listening to eclectic music, watching movies, and memorizing encyclopedic facts. Sam was best known for being everyone’s “best friend,” and for his patience, kindness, and empathy.
Sam's parent's have requested that everybody remember Sam by enjoying the outdoors, making the world a better place, and checking in on your loved ones’ mental and physical health.
Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Sam's parents, Randy and Leah, his sister Sophia, his entire extended family and friends, and our whole CRUSY alumni community.
May the Gawel family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem and may his memory forever be for a blessing.
