Sunday, May 31, 2026:
On the Christian calendar, the First Sunday after Pentecost is called Trinity Sunday, when we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity: One God in Three Persons (One and Three, at the same time).

In The United Methodist Church, today is also Peace with Justice Sunday, one of our denomination-wide “Special Sunday” offering days. Proceeds from Peace with Justice Sunday offerings support peace-with-justice and conflict-resolution initiatives. Half remains in our Annual Conference, and half is distributed by the General Counsel on Finance and
Administration.

I’m at the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina building in Huntersville today and tomorrow with clergy from across the Western North Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia Annual Conferences for the second of four in-person education sessions with the 2026 Reynolds Academy for Ministry Management. I’m so grateful to the Foundation for making this opportunity for learning and connecting possible.

I’m still settling into Charlotte, and starting to get out and about in the local community a bit more. Neighborhood association meetings are certainly more “uptown” than this country mouse is used to! 👀

Tonight’s special guests are from Charlotte Center City Partners: John Noe, Director of Planning & Development, and Klint Mullis, Senior Vice President for Planning & Development. They will share updates, insights, and timelines surrounding current and upcoming development projects impacting Fourth Ward and the North Tryon area, including initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity, vibrancy, and long-term quality of life in our community.

In our United Methodist connection, clergy are appointed to pastor churches one year at a time. Today is "announcement Sunday" here in the Western North Carolina Annual Conference, and I'm pleased to share the good news that I've been reappointed by our bishop and cabinet to serve as Executive Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Charlotte, beginning July 1, 2026, for what will be my second year.

I feel so blessed to be entrusted, alongside Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Val Rosenquist and our amazing staff and laity, with helping guide this committed and inspiring corner of the Body of Christ. May God continue to fuel our resolve and feed our imaginations!

I’m taking a “break” from a wonderful weekend camping with friends and enjoying good bluegrass music at Merlefest to attend the final daylong class session in the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina’s Certificate Program in Church Treasury program. I’m so thankful for our amazing United Methodist connection!

On a Deep South Pilgrimage with a great group of folks from across the Metro District, including a sizable contingent from Charlotte First United Methodist Church. Walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge was a moving experience.
