Newlyn went on an Adventure with Gladys Goff to Austin Texas to be with the Goff, Love, and Kearney families as they celebrated with Paige Love and Kim Hrtinich exchanged wedding vows on Thursday, August 6th. Newlyn loved the journey as well as celebration with such a lovely family!

These are some of our faithful volunteers who join weekly to help pack backpack bags for the students in need of food in our community. They want to ensure that they are offered something on the weekends when their school resources are not available. Not all the volunteers are pictured. Heaven gained a little more sparkle this week. ✨

Dolly Parton, daughter of the Southern Appalachians, born in a one-room cabin in the Smokies, has gone home at 80.

She was kin to these Blue Ridge Mountains so many of us love. And she was kin to us in spirit: a woman who loved boldly, served joyfully, and led courageously. She never hid her shine because she believed God could use a little girl from nothing to light up the whole world. And she did. She put millions of books into the hands of children. She brought hope to the hearts of strangers she'd never met. And her desire to share the Gospel message of God's vast & inclusive love was at the center of it all.

She once said, "I never had children of my own. God didn't let me have children so everybody's children could be mine." That was Dolly — love with no fences around it, wrapped in a whole lot of glitter.

Shine on, Dolly. Thank you for showing us what joyful, courageous love looks like. 💗✨

The congregation of First United Methodist Church, North Wilkesboro gathered at big R Orchard for our service, followed by a good church potluck. We had the music of David Brooks and Wiseman‘s view. And God provided the most beautiful scenery. We certainly enjoyed the fellowship. Thank you to many who helped make this event a reality.

Tomorrow, Sunday, August 23 we will not have the 845 or 1050 at church at first United Methodist Church of North Wilkesboro. We will gather at 11 o’clock for worship at the big R Orchards. We will then share a picnic. You are asked to bring a dish to share. All are welcome.
