Midweek Message – September 2, 2026

Hello, Beloveds, This week we continue in our series GIFTED, and we move from being filled, qualified, and empowered to serving. And that brings us to an important question: God, now that you have gifted us… what do you want us to do with these gifts?
Paul gives us a pretty clear answer in 1 Corinthians 12: our gifts are given for the common good.

In other words, our gifts aren't ultimately about us. They aren't trophies to display. They aren't titles to compete for. They aren't proof that we're better, more important, or more spiritual than someone else.

And let's just call it what it is: “My gifts are better than yours!” — that's BS.

The church isn't supposed to be a competition. There will always be someone who can sing better than us, teach better than us, organize better than us, speak more confidently than us, pray more eloquently than us, or do something that seems more impressive than what we have to offer.

But here's the beautiful thing about the body of Christ: God never asked us to be someone else. Paul reminds us that there are different gifts, different kinds of service, and different kinds of working—but the same Spirit, the same Lord, and the same God are at work in all of them.
Your gift doesn't have to look like mine. And mine doesn't have to look like yours.

We need one another and when we begin comparing our gifts to someone else's, jealousy can steal the joy and power of what God has already placed within us. We become so focused on wishing we had their gift that we neglect the gift God has entrusted to us. But you are part of Team Jesus. And you have been given a vital role in the body of Christ.

Maybe your gift is teaching. Maybe it's hospitality. Maybe it's encouragement. Maybe it's leadership. Maybe it's compassion. Maybe it's administration. Maybe it's creativity. Maybe it's simply the ability to notice the person standing alone in the room and make them feel welcome.

Whatever your gift may be, God can use it. And when we offer our gifts back to God, the ordinary becomes an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to do extraordinary things.

So perhaps the question this week isn't: “What gift do I wish I had?”
Maybe it's: “God, what have you already given me—and how can I use it to serve?”

Because we haven't been GIFTED to compete. We haven't been GIFTED to compare. We haven't been GIFTED to sit on the sidelines. We've been GIFTED to serve.

Every gift. Every person. Every story. Every ability. Is essential to the body. So this week, beloveds, let's stop looking sideways at what someone else has and start looking within at what God has entrusted to us. Then let's offer it up.

Our gifts. Our time. Our passions. Our creativity. Our whole selves. Because when each of us brings what we've been given and uses it for the common good, the whole body becomes stronger, healthier, and more capable of carrying God's love into the world.

Beloved, You are gifted. Now go use it.

This fall, we are excited to invite women from across our community to gather for a Community Women’s Bible Study at North Webster United Methodist Church!

Together, we’ll spend 8 weeks diving deeper into the life of Jesus and asking a simple—but incredibly important—question:

Who is Jesus?

We’ll explore the Jesus we meet in Scripture—the Jesus who had a body, experienced emotions, needed relationships, saw people others overlooked, challenged religious assumptions, suffered, died, and ultimately rose again.

And along the way, we’ll ask:

📖 What does Jesus’ humanity teach us about God?
💭 What does Jesus teach us about ourselves?
❤️ What does it mean to truly follow Jesus?

This is a community Bible study, and women from all churches, denominations, backgrounds, and stages of faith are welcome. Whether you’ve spent years studying Scripture or you’re simply curious and want to know Jesus better, there’s a place for you at the table.

We’ll offer two opportunities each week:

🌙 Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM

Midweek Message – August 26, 2026
Hello, Beloveds,

It’s hard to believe, but here we are at the end of August—and the kids are already back in school! I have to admit, I’m feeling a little off-kilter this back-to-school season. This is the first year in many years that I’m not going back to school myself. And yet, I still found myself wandering the aisles of the back-to-school section at Meijer, just to see if there was anything I absolutely could not live without.

It’s interesting how, even for those of us who aren’t in school, this season seems to bring a renewed sense of routine to our lives. While summer is a wonderful time to slow down and take a break, I know that by the end of August, I’m ready for the rhythms and routines that come with a new school year.

This Sunday, we’re celebrating the start of a new school year together! Our own Ark Christian Preschool staff will be joining us in worship, and we’ve invited all of our preschool students and their families to be part of the celebration. Every student from kindergarten through college will receive a backpack tag, and we’ll have a special time of prayer as we bless and pray over our students, teachers, and staff for the year ahead.

And there’s even more to celebrate because this Sunday we’re also beginning a brand-new sermon series: Gifted!

As summer vacation comes to an end and we return to work, school, activities, and the rhythms of everyday life, it can be easy to feel like we need to become something more in order to make a difference. More education. More talent. More creativity. More experience. More skills.

But what if we already have what we need? Jesus reminds us that God has uniquely gifted each of us for a purpose. We don’t have to wait until we become someone else, learn something else, or finally feel “good enough” before we can be used by God. God has already placed gifts within each of us that can be used to bless our families, our workplaces, our church, and our communities.

This fall gives us an opportunity to take a fresh inner inventory—to discover, name, and embrace the God-given gifts that may have been buried beneath busyness, doubt, or simply the routines of everyday life. So as we head into a new season, I hope you’ll join us as we discover what God has already placed within us and learn how we can use those gifts for the sake of others.

It’s time to use what the good Lord gave you. You are Gifted! I can’t wait to begin this journey together. See you Sunday at 8 AM at Lakeside or 10 AM at the Church! Also to all students do not forget to bring your backpack this Sunday!
