Jim Domm: Proverbs 4:18

The Path of the Righteous
Proverbs 4:18 – Part 2

IV. The Display of Proverbs 4:18 in the Life of Jesus Christ, the Quintessential Righteous Man

Three Preliminary Considerations:

-Jesus was never in Adam (Matt. 1:20; Luke 1:31, 35; Rom. 5:12-19; 1 Cor. 15:21, 22, 45f). Those in Adam → Path of the Wicked; Those in Christ → Path of the Righteous

-The paths of Jesus and believers aren’t exactly the same. Different starting points: His begins at birth, theirs at new birth. Jesus didn’t have to “get into” the way. He is the way (John 14:6). He is the Author, Pioneer, “Trailblazer” of the path of righteousness (Heb. 12:2).

-Jesus isn’t becoming like Himself. Believers are becoming like Him (Rom 8:29; 1 Cor. 15:49; Phil. 3:21; Heb. 12:10; 1 Pet. 1:16; 1 John 2:6). Jesus doesn’t come to the light as they do (John 3:19-21). He is the light (John 1:9; 8:12).

A. In the Progressive Revelation of Jesus’ Glory (Matt. 17:2; Luke 2:32 with Isaiah 9:2, 42:6, 49:6; John 1:14; Phil. 2:6-11; Pet. 1:16f; Rev. 1:7, 16)

B. In the Progressive Impact of Jesus’ Life and Ministry (Matt. 5:14-16; Luke 1:78, 79 with Isaiah 9:2; John 8:12; Acts 26:16-18; Phil. 2:15; Col. 1:13)

C. In the Progressive Quality of Jesus’ Maturation
-In His Humanity (Luke 1:80; 2:40, 52)

-In His Perfecting for Office (Heb. 2:10; 5:7-9; 7:28)

Why the incarnation, humiliation, suffering, perfecting?

→So that we might be redeemed
→So that we might be holy
→So that we might worship Him

This Lord’s day, we welcome Pastor Bob Burrelli, Pilgrim Reformed Baptist Church in Plymouth, MA to our pulpit.

We invite you to join us in person or livestream!

Pastor Robert Burrelli: Micah 3:1-12

The Self-Deceived

Main Idea: Everyone, from the pastor/elder to the layman, who is out of God’s will is susceptible to self-deception that will blind him to his sinful, hypocritical, and hurtful actions toward the saints as well as create in him a false sense of security that God is for him, when in fact God will discipline him, therefore, guard your hearts.

I. God will judge without mercy the self-deceived, from the pastor/elder to the layman, who unjustly and hypocritically judges the saints (1-4).

II. God will judge the self-deceived, from the pastor/elder to the layman, who cleverly misinterprets the Bible for personal gain by exposing him as fraudulent to his shame and disappointment (5-8).

III. God will judge the self-deceived, from the pastor/elder to the layman, more strictly who gives wrong counsel for a price (11a).

IV. Everyone, from the pastor/elder to the layman, motivated by selfish gain at the expense of the saints step out of God’s will and, consequently, become self-deceived when they sincerely claim dependence on the Lord and believe He is for them, when in fact He is not and will judge them (9-12).

After the Sermon, Fellowship Luncheon, then Prayer Meeting.
