The original Anchorage temple continues operations while a new Anchorage temple is being built next door.

The 6,800-square-foot original Anchorage Alaska Temple was announced in October 1997, dedicated in January 1999, expanded to nearly 12,000 square feet and then rededicated in February 2004. It sits less than a football field away from the 30,000-square-foot, under-construction Anchorage Alaska Temple, a project announced in 2023, started in early 2024 on the site of a demolished stake center and expected to be completed in March 2027. A May open house and June 13, 2027, dedication will follow.

Here in Alaska, we are nature lovers.

There is nothing more majestic than the mountains, glaciers, fjords, and wildlife that Alaska shares with us. What makes this stunning scenery so valuable to us is the connection we feel with God.

We cannot deny His hand in it.

Our time in nature ultimately serves as a gentle prelude to the far more profound and eternal experience inside the temple. The temple transforms our soul. It is uniquely the House of the Lord, His dedicated, holy space.

The peace felt in nature is a reflection of the Divine, but the peace in the temple is a direct, promised manifestation of the Holy Ghost, present in a way that cannot be replicated anywhere else on earth.

The ordinances performed there bind families together forever across generations. The work done within those walls has an eternal weight worthy of our attendance.

In the temple, we make binding promises with God that provide a spiritual anchor for our daily life. These covenants endow us with real, spiritual power to face the storms of the world. The burdens we carry, the trials we face ahead, in the temple, we find peace, strength and fortitude. God equips us with the spiritual armor needed to not just overcome, but to conquer.

Come connect with God in the House of the Lord.

“A key part of a life well-lived is contributing to the wellbeing of others. It is being productive in worthy endeavors. It is being and doing better without others doing worse. It comes by supporting and rewarding work rather than idle pursuits."

— Elder D. Todd Christofferson

"A sincere and faithful fast is accompanied by earnest and intentional prayer. As we lift our hearts to the Lord in humility, fasting becomes an expression of our desire to draw near to Him, communicate the true desires of our hearts, and understand His will for us. Through the union of fasting and prayer, our faith, love, and devotion to Him deepen. We become more humble and more aware of our complete dependence upon the Lord. Our hearts are softened, our souls become more receptive to the influence of the Holy Ghost, and we are better prepared to receive personal revelation and move forward along the covenant path."

— Elder Ulisses Soares

"The Lord is not delayed, distracted, or derelict in His deliverance. He has not forgotten you. He does not take joy in your suffering. However, He knows that lessons learned while waiting can bring converting growth that an earlier rescue might not produce."

—Elder Kevin J. Hathaway

“Saying ‘I love you’ with a pure and sincere heart is a way of bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. Whenever we express Christlike love to those around us, we bear witness of Him, the source of all perfect love.”

— Elder Gerald Caussé
