Philosophy of Faith Lutheran School - North Palm Beach, Florida

The Mission Statement of Faith Lutheran Church:

We are Faith Lutheran Church, members of the body of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit calls us today to share God’s love and grace for your life through worship, study, fellowship and service. Mission and Ministry of Faith Lutheran School:

Faith Lutheran School is an integral part of Fai

th Lutheran Church’s mission and ministry to all children and their families. We, Faith Lutheran School, are reaching out in mission by teaching God’s love and grace, in a safe loving environment, through a strong, age appropriate academic program. In partnership with the families we strive to develop the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of each child. Physical Development:

1 Cor 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? Therefore honor God with your body. Children are taught to respect their bodies as temples of God. They are encouraged to improve their bodies through physical movement in conjunction with health and wellness education. Cognitive Development:

Ecclesiastes 1:12 … but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it. Children learn best through play with hands on, developmentally appropriate materials. Social Development:

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Children are encouraged to be independent beings with a respect for God’s creation. They are taught respect for authority and to get along with others through developmentally appropriate problem solving. Emotional Development:

Num 6:26 The Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace

Children are given the opportunity to grow in the knowledge of God’s word and the security of Jesus’ love and care. Children are encouraged to express their feelings through healthy avenues and respect the feelings of others. Spiritual Development:

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures

Children are taught that the Bible is the Word of God, Jesus is the Son of God and
through Him our sins are forgiven.

Been saying this for years. And yes, gonna say it again

Last week I spoke to 700+ 3rd to 6th graders

When I asked who had their own personal device almost every hand went up

We had a candid conversation around the impact of screentime on your brain, loss of sleep due to device use, and the light sides, the positive of technology and its' use as a true tool of connection and innovation

What followed was open Q and A:

8 year olds asking "What if there's an intruder in my bedroom, you're saying no devices in the bedroom to protect my sleep, but what about for that?"

10 year old: "I live on the third floor, what if there is a fire? If I don't have a phone, how will I call 911?"

9 year old: "I share a bedroom with my baby sister, do I scoop her up and run or look for my phone if there's an emergency?"

I took a poll of adults as well last week about having devices on in school, during class, and at lunch. Answers varied but the recurring theme was adults wanting to communicate family schedule changes or what if sports schedules changed. Valid.

However, the above outlines that our kids are reliant on a device for their personal safety. Some to self-soothe, some for emergencies that they need to escape like hell from.

Next week marks a year since Uvalde happened.

Phones did not save those children.

The ones that ran were saved. Some hid or played dead--they were situationally aware and used their best defense, themselves and their practiced safety skills.

The escalating rates of anxiety, depression, and self-harm are enough to convince me that 1984 was our best year.

Get out. Move bodies. Connect like humans. Demand device free zones.

Growing seedlings in an egg carton is a great way to teach your child about plants.

Please watch for new "E-Stop Signs" at the Lighthouse Drive bridge. The Village Fire Department will control new electronic stop signs using a key fob as fire vehicles approach the bridge. The purpose is to reduce Fire Department response times and to limit the allowable weight on the bridge as fire trucks cross.

For back to school season, we would like to spotlight Pilar Tucker, Administrative Director of Faith Lutheran School. We can't wait to see God's love this school year!

Pilar began working at the school in 1986 as a substitute. She never knew a temporary role would be permanent for over 36 years! With a Bachelor and Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, Pilar enjoys researching and hands-on learning with the children in nature. Looking back on her education, she remembers its about "the process, not the product."

Pilar's most rewarding part of her job is "to see the smiles on their faces when they comprehend something they have been trying to work on." She loves to teach the love of Jesus, the love of learning and respect for all God's creation, which is the philosophy of Faith Lutheran School.

Wishing all staff, teachers and students many blessings for the upcoming year!
