Dear all,

So many thanks to all who came out to De Queen this Sunday for their final liturgy! It meant the world to Father George and Subdeacon George and all who have served this parish for 36 years. It was truly bittersweet to hear Father George’s homily, the summation of all he has learned and taught in so many ways. We will soon share photos and video and a summary of the day for those who could not attend. I know many wished to be there from across the United States. May our parish, a spiritual offfspring of this blessed place, carry on their legacy of humility, piety, repentance, and love!

In the next few weeks, we will make some short trips (day trips and overnight) to do remodeling/repair work on the small mobile home Father George is moving into and the main house in anticipation of the convent’s arrival. If you could come and offer your skills and time, you would be repaid with time to absorb Fr George’s skill and wisdom and we can provide meals and any needed lodging arrangements.

It may not be many years before our parish will be called upon to serve this humble servant of Christ in his final days and for his repose. Not a moment of time spent with Father George or in this peaceful place will be wasted and you will receive your reward in heaven. Please let us know if you’d like to join us for this work with your time and your tools. It is hard to explain how much this good priest has done for each one of us, whether we have met him or not.

Q&A: HOW TO BE A GOOD GODPARENT?

Question: What is the role and purpose of a person who becomes a godparent? How is a godparent different from a parent? How does one become a good, faithful godparent?

Answer from Archpriest Andrey Lemeshonok: To become a good godparent you need to be a Christian. If you pray, if you receive Communion, if you give attention to your godchild, if you show them care, stay in touch with them, and, most importantly, pray for them—then you will be a good godparent.

If the child's parents are not particularly churchgoing, you should bring the child to Communion yourself and encourage the parents. In short, you simply must not be indifferent. You need to feel a spiritual responsibility for the child whose godparent you have become. And I think you will manage. It will come together. You will pray—and that will be the greatest help you can give your godchild.
