Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery

Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery Historic Non-Denominational Cemetery incorporated in 1902. We were established and continue to be run by caring lot owners.

As a nondenominational cemetery our mission is to provide to anyone the grounds, resources and services that we would personally appreciate ourselves. We are a nonprofit run by Board Members who themselves are lot owners with loved ones buried within the gates of Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, and who provide valuable insight toward maintaining this vision. In keeping with our mission we have als

o chosen to be nonsectarian, meaning that none of our burial sections are created for the sole use of any particular religious or non-familial affiliation but open to the public. For instance, although we dedicated our main flagpole to all Veterans buried “within the gates”, they are actually spread throughout the cemetery among their families. Seeing all the Veterans waving flags throughout the cemetery is quite impressive and movingly representative of their vast and vital presence among us.

Our crew likes to keep an eye on the wildlife around the pond where we see many species such as this blue heron drop in to enjoy the serene environment. One day they saw a goose in distress that appeared to be drowning with its family continuing to helplessly surround it. At first they thought a snapping turtle was pulling it down. Rather than filming its rescue, John Matteson and Norman Harris jumped into action and found that it was tangled in a fishing line. So they freed the poor bird and it is now gratefully paddling around the pond again along with its much relieved family.
