Mary, you who are called "the Cedar of Lebanon," look down upon your children who, today and always, beg your guiding hand. Grant us the faith to withstand the sweeping blows of life as the cedar stands straight against the wind.

CONGRATULATIONS to Father Peter Stetson who was recently ordained for the Diocese of Steubenville and who will celebrate one of his first masses here at the Basilica on Sunday, June 21st at 10 a.m. There will be a reception for Father Peter immediately following the Liturgy. All are welcome to attend!

Father Peter is the son of Bernie & Mary Jo Stetson and the grandson of Bill & Marge Spletzer, all of whom were volunteers at the Shrine for many years.
He also served as an Altar Boy at the Shrine. We are so pleased he is now a Priest of the Holy Mother Church and that we are able to share in his vocation.
There is a Plenary Indulgence for those who participate in the First Mass, who receive his priestly blessing and who kiss the palms of the newly ordained.

GOD GRANT HIM MANY YEARS!

MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND THE 250th ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE mark a milestone for Catholic Americans in our great nation.
As part of our observation of these events, the Catholic Bishops of the United States have dedicated and consecrated this entire year of celebration to the most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
All of us are encouraged to reflect upon the many blessings we have received from Almighty God for our great nation and that true freedom can only be found within the depth of His Divine and Sacred Heart.
We have been asked to observe this year with Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy which are essential to our Catholic beliefs and practices. We must be a people of God dedicated to serving the Lord and others by our prayers and deeds.
Please refer to the following posts which recommend how we can assist in making this a great year by devoting 250 hours of Adoration and 250 hours of Works of Mercy.
It is a challenge for all of us, but a challenge we accept because of our gratitude to the Lord for our nation and freedom, and that we declared before the entire world that we are chosen people who never forget the benevolence of our Eternal Father.
