Week 15 Recap | Romans 9:1–24

God’s Sovereignty

This last week, we stepped into one of the most challenging and humbling sections of Romans.

Paul begins Romans 9 not with an argument—but with grief. His heart is broken for Israel, and from that place he tackles a difficult question:

Has God’s Word failed?
Paul’s answer is clear: No.

We were reminded that God’s purposes are not dependent on human effort, status, heritage, or achievement. God is sovereign, and salvation is rooted in His mercy.

One of the central truths of the night was:

“So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”
Romans 9:16 (NKJV)

What We Learned
✅ God’s Word has not failed.
✅ Spiritual privilege does not automatically equal salvation.
✅ God’s purposes are grounded in His mercy, not our merit.
✅ Scripture holds together both God’s sovereignty and human responsibility.
✅ We are the clay; God is the Potter.
✅ Faith may ask God questions—but faith does not put God on trial.

Romans 9 forces us to confront a hard but necessary question:

Can I trust God’s character even when I do not fully understand His choices?

That is where humility begins.

This Week’s Challenge:

Instead of always praying,
“God, explain this to me,” try praying,

“God, help me trust You even when I do not understand.”

Life in the Spirit (Part 1)

What an incredible evening in God's Word!

This week, we arrived at one of the most hope-filled chapters in all of Scripture. After walking through humanity's sinfulness, God's amazing grace, our struggle with sin, and the daily battle of the Christian life, Paul now declares a life-changing truth:

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus..." Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

What a promise!

If you belong to Jesus Christ, your past no longer defines you. Your failures no longer condemn you. Your identity is no longer found in your sin—but in your Savior.

Here's What We Learned:

✅ In Christ, there is no condemnation—our guilt has been removed because Jesus has already paid the price.
✅ The Holy Spirit doesn't just live around us; He lives within us, empowering us to live a new life.
✅ The battle is won by walking in the Spirit, not by relying on our own strength.
✅ We have not been given a spirit of fear, but the incredible privilege of being adopted into God's family.
✅ Through Christ, we are no longer merely forgiven sinners—we are sons and daughters of the living God and heirs with Christ.

One of the most meaningful moments of our study came as we reflected on Paul's words:

"For you did not receive the spirit of bo***ge again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'" Romans 8:15 (NKJV)

What an amazing privilege—to call the Creator of the universe Father.

This Week's Challenge:

Each morning this week, begin your day by declaring Romans 8:1:

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."

Then ask yourself:

"Am I living today like someone who has been set free?"

Walk in that freedom.
Walk in the Spirit.
Walk as God's beloved child.

Week 12 Recap | Romans 7:1–25

The Believer's Struggle with Sin

What an honest and encouraging evening we shared in God's Word!

Romans 7 reminds us that every believer experiences a spiritual battle. If you've ever found yourself saying, "Why do I keep struggling with the very things I want to overcome?"—you're not alone.

The Apostle Paul expressed that same frustration:

> "For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice."
Romans 7:19 (NKJV)

Tonight, we learned an important truth:

The struggle with sin is not evidence that God has abandoned you—it is often evidence that God is at work in you.

The very fact that we grieve over sin demonstrates that the Holy Spirit is transforming our hearts.

Key Takeaways:

✅ God's Law is holy, but it cannot save us.

✅ The Law reveals our sin; it cannot remove our sin.

✅ Every believer experiences a battle between the flesh and the desire to please God.

✅ Self-effort will always leave us frustrated and exhausted.

✅ Victory comes not through trying harder, but through trusting Jesus more deeply.

One of the most powerful moments of our study came when Paul cried out:

> "O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"

But Paul didn't end with despair.

He immediately answered his own question:

> "I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
Romans 7:25 (NKJV)

That is the hope of the Gospel.

Jesus doesn't simply forgive us—He delivers us.

This Week's Challenge

When you face temptation or discouragement this week, don't rely on your own strength.

Instead, pause and pray:

"Lord Jesus, I can't overcome this on my own. I need Your strength today."

Remember:

The Christian life isn't about striving harder—it's about surrendering more completely to Christ.
