Unity Church English Hand Bell Choir of North Easton was founded in 1991 upon receipt of a gift of a set of Schulmerich hand bells by Elizabeth Ames, benefactor of the Unity Church of North Easton and wife of the late David Ames, a descendant of Massachusetts Governor Ames. For 25 years the bell choir was under the direction of Richard Hill, the organist and music director of Unity Church until hi

s retirement in 2015 at which time Susan Maffa was asked to become the director. Currently we have 12 members in the bell choir that play 3 octaves of bells and we have a fairly extensive repertoire of sacred and secular music appropriate for many occasions. The bell choir has played throughout Southeastern Massachusetts including at Borderland Mansion, Brockton Symphony, Faneuil Hall and many local church and Grange events. Susan Maffa is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music ‘85, a member of the bell choir and the soprano soloist for Unity Church for nearly 30 years. She has performed extensively throughout the South Shore and Boston. Please contact the Unity Church or Susan Maffa if you are interested in hiring the bell choir for a special occasion, holiday event, fund-raising event or general concert.

The Unity Church English Handbell Choir is pleased to announce its participation in the 38th Annual Massachusetts Spring Ring, scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Tewksbury, MA.

This year’s event will feature more than 200 bell ringers representing 26 handbell choirs, marking the highest attendance in the past decade.

Throughout the day, participants will rehearse and refine several musical selections under the guidance of conductor Kimberlee Strepka. The program will conclude with a concert showcasing both massed ringing pieces and individual choir performances at 3:00 pm. Admission to this concert is complimentary and open to the public.

We cordially invite you to join us in Tewksbury at 3:00 pm for this annual celebration of handbell music.

The Unity Church English Handbell Choir performs tomorrow, March 2, 2025 at 10:30 am as part of Unity Church's Worship Service. Dr. Andrew Tripp's sermon will be on Memory and Love, and the Unity Church English Handbell Choir will be performing three fantastic pieces including Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".
