The life of Christian obedience is a difficult one filled with both great frustration and great joy.

The flesh fights every day and must be put to death [Rom 8] to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. His obedience is a model for us [Phili 2] who believe that Christ is Lord and desire to live as Jesus did [1 John 2:6].

As we strive for obedience, let us throw off sin [Heb 12:1] and model our lives after Jesus [Eph 5:1], seeking to be in step with the Father’s will [Luke 22:42] in our own lives and for others.

Looking at Jesus as the example for our faith [Heb 12:2] and reminding ourselves through singing praises, joining with believers, reading the Word, witnessing, giving, living in community, making disciples, and sharing our lives [ Col 3:16] that He is more than enough and His love is from everlasting to everlasting [Ps 103:17].

Today, take some time to consider all that Christ endured on our behalf.

Yes to remembering the cross [Heb 12:2], but yes also to remembering the consistent daily obedience [Luke 2:49] that He kept for us as well as offering Himself sinless and perfect as a holy sacrifice for our sins [2 Cor 5:21].

Jesus knew that God satisfies like no other, and if we are satisfied in God, then—as the song says—the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

The obedience of Jesus was before the act of the cross, and it was all done for God’s glory and our good. Today, strive by the Spirit to live in the same obedience as Him.

This past Sunday we had the joy of baptizing one of our students.

As his father and I were heading out to the pool, he reminded me that this was the same pool where he had been baptized in college.
On occasion a family may have multiple generations baptized in the same baptistry, but what makes this worth mentioning is that our church does not own a building.

Summit has met on the campus of Charleston Southern University since 2005 (21 years), and in that time, students who were baptized in the CSU pool have had children who have come to faith in Christ and, like their parents, follow in obedience in baptism in the same CSU pool.

As our church rejoiced over baptism, and thanked the Lord for being faithful over the years, we were reminded that God can and will work in any location.

Then we prayed for many more generations of CSU students and other believers to continue to follow Christ in confession and obedience on the same campus, in the same pool.

Today, take some time and consider what God has done and thank Him for it.
Then pray asking God for ministry to continue far beyond what you might see in your lifetime.

His Word endures, and He is faithful to every generation.

Summit Family,

In one of his letters, John Newton writes about Israel saying, “…they frequently lost sight of God’s gracious purposes in their favour…”

Israel had been given favor by God because He had a purpose for them.

We have to ask ourselves, have we been given favor by God?

Have we received the blessing of coming to Christ and experiencing salvation?

If so, then what more is God's purpose beyond drawing us to Himself?

Is it to make disciples of the nations? Yes.
To serve and give our lives for His cause? Yes.
To live a life glorifying the Lord whether in life or death? Yes.

Then we must not forget, that we who are in Christ share in the salvific purposes of our Lord beyond our own salvation and towards His eternal desires.

That nations come to know Him, that God is glorified, this is the gracious purpose for which we were saved.

Let us not lose sight of the what: our salvation, and the why: so that Christ would be glorified.

There is purpose in His grace, and it is a most glorious purpose.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31

[18] For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

[20] Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? [21] For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. [22] For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, [23] but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, [24] but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. [25] For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

[26] For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. [27] But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; [28] God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, [29] so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. [30] And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, [31] so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
