A Place of Radical Welcome for Over 40 Years

A Message to Our Church Family and Friends

For more than 40 years, Metropolitan Community Church of Charleston has been a sanctuary — a place where all people, and especially our LGBTQ+ community, have found welcome, worship, and the unwavering love of God. That legacy does not end today, but it does enter a new season.

After much prayer, discernment, and conversation, our board of directors has made the decision to enter a period of sabbatical. We will be closing our doors for an undetermined time as we sell our 8,000 square foot building and seek a new space — one that better reflects who we are today and where God is calling us to go tomorrow.

This is not an ending. It is a pause for renewal.

Buildings change. Seasons change. But our calling remains the same: to be a place of radical welcome, where all people — regardless of who they love or how they identify — know they are seen, valued, and cherished by God. As we step into this time of transition, we do so with faith that this sabbatical is not a retreat from our mission, but a recommitment to it.

During this season, we ask for your patience, your prayers, and your grace. Selling a building, discerning a new home, and reimagining what worship and community can look like takes time — and we want to do it faithfully, not hastily. We are trusting that God is already preparing the space, the people, and the path forward, even before we can see it clearly ourselves.

We will keep you informed as this journey unfolds, and we deeply value the community, friendship, and support you have given us over these four decades. Whatever comes next, we know it will be shaped by the same love and inclusion that has always defined us.

Thank you for walking this road with us. We can't wait to show you what God has in store.

Pastor Felicia: More Than Enough!

Matthew 14:13-21
When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. May we be blessed by this Reading.
