International Seafarers Ministry

International Seafarers Ministry ISM is a ministry to sailors from 136 nations & "the fastest way to the ends of the earth."

In the last 16 years, we have met and ministered to tens of thousands of people from 135 nations all around the world, and the best part is that they all speak English. You can run into people from Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America all on one ship. It is like going on multiple international mission trips without ever leaving home. We offer magazines, Bible study materials, Bibles/New Testame

nts, conversation, and free transportation as a way to meet their temporal needs always with an eye toward meeting their ONE eternal need. To support this ministry financially, click here: https://cba.churchcenter.com/giving/to/seafarer-s-ministry

I got the minivan emptied out of the last of the materials from Azalea. I then headed to James Island Baptist Church to pick up 4 boxes of Bible study materials. I then visited the 1 ship with crew from Indonesia, Philippines, Croatia, & Montenegro. I then went through the materials from James Island. My appt for the minivan service tomorrow is at 8:45 at the south end of town. It's 12.5 miles from here, but Google maps shows it taking ~50 minutes to get there (averages out to 15 mph) - gotta love rush hour.

I visited 3 ships with crew from Philippines, India, Greece, Romania, South Africa, Poland, Sweden, & the UK. On the 1st ship I spoke a bit with Ace, the Filipino AB (or rather he spoke at me for a while as I listened). He has been working at sea since 2000. He started working on ships around the Philippines, and then went international in 2004. He has been to many ports around the US. He doesn't like to work on the ships, but he needs the money. He said that a 2nd Officer in the Philippines would make $500 per month as compared to an international AB making $1500 per month. Once he ran out of steam, I headed to the 2nd ship where I spoke a bit with the Indian 1st Officer. He has been working at sea for 12 years. He has 2 daughters below the age of 10, and his wife is looking into having them all immigrate to either Australia or Canada. He isn't sure he wants to do so, but he's thinking about it. He then had to return to work, so I headed to the 3rd ship where I spoke a bit with the Filipino 3rd Officer. He has been at sea for 15 years, and he joined his current company 10 years ago. He got promoted to 3rd Officer 2 years ago and is on his 3rd contract as a 3rd Officer. He said he loves the company as it has good healthcare and retirement plans for the crew. In other news, I got an appt for the minivan service (and a recall issue they alerted me to) on Thursday.

So my first thing to do this morning was to try to get someone to come fix my ac unit. They gave me an appt window of "some time today." I then visited 3 ships with crew from Philippines, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, India, & the USA. I delivered mail from the PO Box to the Dental Clinic at Azalea, and then waited for the ac person. He arrived at 16:00 and got it fixed by 18:00. Tomorrow's first thing to do will be to deliver the mail to the CBA. The 2nd will be to schedule the minivan for service that is slightly overdue because of my need of it to get all the stuff moved to Highland Park over the last week and a half. I would have done it this evening, but I don't recall all the codes (service A or B and some string of numbers).

I dropped off the materials from yesterday at Highland Park. I then visited 4 ships with crew from India, Ethiopia, Holland, Philippines, Ukraine, Russia, & the USA. The ship we had not seen in 15 years still had the same nationalities with the addition of a couple of Ukrainians. I then went back to the Azalea office and gathered up the remaining materials to be moved to Highland Park. After 5 hours, I got the last of it into the van and headed out.

There is a ship in port today that we haven't seen since 2011. Back then the crew was from Philippines, Holland, & Russia. Still the same? I'll find out soon.

I dropped off more materials at Highland Park before visiting 3 ships with crew from Indonesia, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, Philippines, Russia, Peru, Panama, Sri Lanka, Germany, Ukraine, & Costa Rica. On the 2nd ship I spoke a bit with the Russian 3rd Officer, Nikolai. He has been working at sea for 6 years, and this is his first contract as a 3rd Officer. He is not married, but his girlfriend is studying in the UK. I asked what she studies, and he said she is working on AI. I said she would be the one to create the Terminator, and he laughed. He said they actually joke that she will be the one to either create Skynet or destroy it. He then had to head back to work. I then went back to the Azalea Drive office and loaded up more boxes. I'm hoping I can get the last of it tomorrow. I really don't want to have to go back there on Saturday. They start the summer camps on Monday.

There were no ships in port. I dropped off more materials at Highland Park and refilled the boxes at the Azalea office. I think 1 or 2 more trips should finish the move.

I dropped off more materials at Highland Park before visiting 2 ships with crew from India, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, & Egypt. I had hoped to meet Serge, the Filipino 2nd Officer, on the 2nd ship, but he had signed off. I then loaded up a bunch more materials from the Azalea office. Tomorrow I will take a bunch of files to the CBA office. Gary, the former director of several ministries of the CBA (including the seafarers ministry), had a filing cabinet full of folders. He left in 2012, but the cabinet got moved into my area at the Azalea drive office. I started pulling things out to find all kinds of official documentation about the CBA including insurance records, personnel files, incorporation documents, etc. Things they've been looking for for years were all just sitting in this filing cabinet. Whoever would have thought he would have had them?

All gave some. SOME gave ALL.

I visited 6 ships with crew from Philippines, India, Russia, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, Sweden, & the USA. I also picked the flags up from the Azalea office & dropped them off at Pinecrest Baptist Church. The 6th ship was a training ship from SUNY's maritime school. There were a couple of hundred students who were mostly from New York. They were glad to receive the Bible study materials.
