Today is the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession, when we first told the world who we are as Lutherans. This is a special day for us, probably even more so than Reformation Day. From a fellow LCMC pastor, Pr. Chad Kyler.

📜✝️ Today we commemorate the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession • June 25, 1530

On this day in the city of Augsburg, Lutheran princes and pastors presented the Augsburg Confession before Emperor Charles V.

This was not an act of rebellion, innovation, or the creation of a new church. It was a public confession of faith and a call for the Church to return to the Gospel and the teaching of Holy Scripture.

The Augsburg Confession was written as a catholic witness. The confessors repeatedly insisted that they had not departed from the historic Christian faith but stood in continuity with the Church through the ages. They sought reform where abuses had arisen while preserving what was faithful, true, and handed down. As Article I boldly states, they embraced the faith confessed at Nicaea and rejected teachings contrary to it.

Its opening words still resonate:

“Our churches teach with complete unanimity…”

The confessors did not seek separation. They sought to confess Christ faithfully, preserve the catholic faith, and proclaim that sinners are justified by grace through faith for Christ’s sake.

Today we give thanks for:
đź“– Scripture as the final authority
✝️ Justification by grace through faith
⛪ The catholic faith faithfully confessed
🍞 Christ’s gifts in Word and Sacrament
🕊️ The courage to confess Christ in every generation

Lord, grant us the same boldness to confess Christ in our own day.

Sola Gratia • Sola Fide • Sola Scriptura 🙏

We caught a typo on our Easter event. Easter worship is at normal time, which is 9:30 on this Sunday NOT 9:00. Sorry for the confusion!
