Archbishop Hebda’s Letter to Families Is Here!
Read, or listen to, Archbishop Hebda’s pastoral letter to families, “Only One Thing is Necessary,” available now at archspm.org/familyletter. It is Archbishop’s deep desire that, in it,every individual in this Archdiocese will see his or her role in the great task at hand, what’s at stake, and how we can all strive to be united with our families and with each other, in this life and the next. We encourage you to read the letter online, or listen to the audio podcast, if you are able. If that is not a good option for you, printed copies are available in the narthex.

Reclaiming Sundays: June - Screen-Free Sundays and Prayer
The final Reclaiming Sundays theme (for June) is “Screen-Free Sundays.” One activity that is part of a liturgical celebration is to participate in the Corpus Christi procession on June 7th (after both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses). Last year, the parishes restarted a long-standing Church tradition of doing an outdoor Eucharistic procession at the end of Corpus Christi Mass. Please pray for good weather! In the event of bad weather, the procession will either be shortened or canceled (due to the fact that the new liturgical rites require that a procession at this celebration goes outside).

Pope Leo XIV will preside over the recitation of the Holy Rosary on May 30 in the Vatican Gardens, with each decade dedicated to people impacted by war—from families torn apart to medical personnel and volunteers.
Pope Leo will pray the Joyful Mysteries, with each decade being dedicated specifically for those affected by war and violence and entrusting them to the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace.

In the United States, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington will take part at 1 p.m. Eastern time

The first decade is offered for victims of war, with particular attention to the most vulnerable. The second is for those who bring words of hope and the comfort of faith to populations living under conflict. The third decade honors medical personnel, paramedics and volunteers providing humanitarian aid in war zones.

The fourth mystery is dedicated to prisoners, those enduring violence and all who suffer humiliations that violate human dignity. The fifth and final joyful mystery is for an end to war and the establishment of lasting peace throughout the world.

Reclaiming the Lord’s Day

June Initiative – Screen-Free Sundays and Prayer
Pope Francis in his 2013 apostolic exhortation “The Joy of the Gospel” (Evangelii Gaudium) talks about one of the main challenges of modern life: “Sometimes we prove hard of heart and mind; we are forgetful, distracted and carried away by the limitless possibilities for consumption and distraction offered by contemporary society” ( #196). Not only do smartphones distract, but so do streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and YouTubeTV. The focus this month is to create space in your family life to engage one another outside of the temptation to “binge” one show after another.

Activities for June:
One activity that is part of a liturgical celebration is to participate in the Corpus Christi procession on June 7th (after both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Outdoor Gathering: Summers are typically pretty pleasant in Minnesota. Plan on either attending or hosting an outdoor gathering. St. Gregory’s is starting parish-wide monthly socials called “St. Greg’s Grill and Gather” during the summer on the following dates (starting at 6 p.m.): June 10th, July 8th, and August 5th.

If you have the ability to hold a bonfire, that can be a good and simple way to spend time with family and friends while getting a break from screens.

The Pope’s intentions reflect the deepest needs of our world and the mission of the Church. They are born from a global process of listening and discernment, and chosen by the Pope after his own time of prayer.

JUNE 2026 – For the values of sports.
Let us pray that sports be an instrument of peace, encounter, and dialogue among cultures and nations, and that they promote values such as respect, solidarity, and personal growth.

Reclaiming Sundays: May – Community and Prayer
As we continue our Reclaiming Sundays initiative, May is a relatively pleasant month to be outdoors. When you are doing housework or see a neighbor outside, make it your intention to chat with your neighbors. In modern times, it is easy to be anonymous even to our neighbors. National Night Out (which this year is Tuesday, August 4th) helps to this end, but it is easy for us (Fr. Matt included) to go months without speaking with our neighbors. Maybe your conversation will be the highlight of your neighbor’s day.

Saturday Hospitality: Volunteers wanted
Help plan a simple main dish (e.g. sandwiches or pizza) plus desserts and drinks for about 20 people at no cost (the parish will reimburse). Menu items may be purchased from a store or restaurant, and do not need to be homemade. We are seeking people who would like to host our Saturday Hospitality on one of the following dates: September 12, and December 12. Please contact Joleen Pierce or Mary Determan for more information or sign up on the sheet in the narthex.

Formed.org Catholic Resource – Video of the Week:
The Wild Goose - “Wild Goose” was a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Watchmen group has been going through the 14-part series that features Fr. Dave Pivonka and various interviews. Shot in various locations from Niagara Falls to the California desert, The Wild Goose invites viewers to an encounter, or a renewed encounter, with the Holy Spirit. https://app.formed.org/app/videos/586226/

YOUTH MINISTRY EVENTS: Contact Liz Long ([email protected]) with questions and to sign up.
Our monthly youth events have wrapped up for the school year. Thank you to all who participated and volunteered at these events since September. We look forward to welcoming you back to Friday Fun Nights and High School Youth Group events in the Fall. Have a great Summer!
