In Zona 3 of Guatemala City, garbage provides life. Many people depend on the dump for their daily sustenance. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to make sack lunches for the individuals who have no choice but to scavenge there for leftover food and items to recycle, called guajeros. We had a tour of the dump, which has greatly improved since 2016, when there was a garage collapse that buried 1200 people. The employees work to prevent erosion and have a safer system for the guajeros. We had the opportunity to pray for both the employees and guajeros. The landfill is expected to be full in 8 years. Please pray for these individuals who have no other opportunity for work- what will happen to them and those that depend on them, as well as the many employees that strive daily for the betterment of the city.

Yesterday was a great day! We were interviewed in the morning by some of the students so they could practice their English and played games with them. Then we visited 6 of the students’ families to pray for them and bless them with food parcels. The afternoon was day 2 of VBS.

Be praying for our Muslim neighbors as they celebrate Eid al-Adha today.

Eid al-Adha literally means “Festival of Sacrifice.” It is also called Eid al-Kabeer – “The Large Feast.”

We started the day with a devotion, breakfast and exploring the gardens at where we stay. Then we spent the day at Light for the Future school. We prepared for VBS with the students, had a delicious lunch of Guatemala’s famous pepian soup, and then hosted the VBS with the students. Such a great day! 😍

Today the team enjoyed a bilingual church service and then got to experience the local culture. Tomorrow we start at Light for the Future School. Pray with us that we serve from God’s strength and bring Him glory.

After we unloaded our luggage, we headed to Walmart for supplies. We purchased food for home visits, VBS, and a community outreach. Tomorrow is church!

Guatemala | June 13–20

Please pray for our Guatemala mission team as they serve alongside Light for the Future Ministries. During the mornings, the team will help middle and high school students develop their English skills through tutoring and conversation. In the afternoons, they will host Vacation Bible School for children in the community, sharing the hope of Christ through lessons, games, and relationships.

Pray that God would use our team to encourage students, strengthen local ministry efforts, and plant seeds of faith. Also pray that He would work in the hearts of our team members as they serve.
