Order of Saint Helena

The Order of Saint Helena is a religious order in the Episcopal Church for lay and ordained women. Our core values are:
1.

The mission of the Order of Saint Helena (Episcopal) is to show forth Christ through a life of monastic prayer, hospitality and service. Prayer
We celebrate the Holy Eucharist and pray the Divine Office daily. We practice individual prayer, intercession and meditation.

2. Hospitality
We offer an oasis of welcome for guests, both individuals and groups.

3. Service
We minister and serve where o

ur gifts meet the world’s needs.

4. Tradition and Innovation
We are women living communally under a vow of monastic poverty, celibate chastity and obedience to God. From Benedictine roots, we discern new ways to interpret traditional monasticism, striving to grow in diversity and inclusivity.

Looking forward to Sunday September 6: Pentecost 15 (Proper 18)
When there is a conflict between two people, Jesus advises to go directly and speak to the person in question. Work it out between you, if possible. If not bring others to help the conversation. If only all conflicts could be resolved person-to-person, from the beginning. And, whenever we are gathered, in Jesus’s name, he is there among us.

Looking forward to Sunday August 30: Pentecost 14 (Proper 17)
The disciples of Jesus are not open to the idea that Jesus will suffer and die, regardless of how many times and in how many ways he tries to tell them. For us also, sometimes we may be called to give over to God what we cannot keep for ourselves alone.

Jesus declares that the church will be built on Peter, the rock. We know Peter to be an unsteady, crumbly rock at best. But it is on the best of each of us, imperfect as we are, that the church can grow and thrive.

Jesus thought his message was meant only for the Jewish people, but then he recognizes her “great faith” and she will receive crumbs which are the full bread of life.

O God, who on the holy mount revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Looking forward to Sunday August 9: Pentecost 11 (Proper 14)
The disciples saw Jesus walking on the stormy sea, and they were terrified. But Jesus reassures them, “Do not be afraid.” And he also says, “I am,” the same words God spoke to Moses at the burning bush. Jesus is their familiar friend and teacher, and he is also divine.

Looking forward to Sun Aug 2: Pentecost 10 (Proper 13)
It was late in a deserted place and the crowd was hungry. Jesus said to the disciples, “You give them something to eat.” Jesus blessed five loaves and two fish, and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to give to the people. We are also abundantly blessed by God.

Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, or yeast, or a treasure hidden in a field, or one pearl of great value, or a net that catches fish of every kind.

Looking forward to Sun July 19: Pentecost 8 (Proper 11)
Jesus told a parable about a farmer whose field produces both weeds and wheat. Weeds are not inherently wicked, just less desirable for us. We also may be good but not perfect wheat; we may be partly weedy and a bit less than good. The weeds and wheat are both “forgiven” and let grow together, only to be separated at harvest time.
