Come spend Sunday morning with us!

We’re continuing our series through 2 Timothy, and this week we land on one of the most central verses in the whole letter: “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel” (2 Timothy 2:8). Paul gives a lot of instructions in this letter but underneath all of it is this one call: remember who Jesus is. The risen King. The promised Son of David. The Lord we keep before us, in our minds and in how we live.

That’s what Sunday is about for us. Not hype, not production, just fixing our eyes on Jesus and seeking his presence together

In the grand timeline of eternity, your life is only a moment. Yet before the world began, God saw that moment. He saw your face. He knew your name. He knew every failure, every fear, every sin, every heartbreak, every struggle you would ever carry.

And He loved you anyway

that is what Paul reminds Timothy of in 2 Timothy 1. The gospel is not an afterthought. It was God’s plan from before the beginning of time to show us His grace through Jesus Christ.

When Jesus stepped into our world, He knew exactly what awaited Him. The betrayal. The mocking. The scourging. The nails. The cross.

He knew the suffering would be great. And He stayed.

Why? Because He saw you and decided you were worth saving. Because He loved you.Because He wanted to break the power of death and make a way for you to have eternal life.

That truth is what gave Paul courage to sit in a prison cell awaiting ex*****on and say, “I am not ashamed.”

when you realize what Jesus has done for you, it changes everything. The fear of what people think begins to lose its grip. The cost of following Him is put into perspective. The gospel becomes worth living for, suffering for, and sharing with others

Jesus was not ashamed to suffer for you. So may we never be ashamed to live for Him.

Paul writes to Timothy in one of the most intense moments of his life. He is in prison. He is nearing the end. And yet his tone is not panic. It is not fear. It is clarity. He reminds Timothy of something essential:

“Fan into flame the gift of God… For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” That line cuts straight through every generation, including ours

because when life gets hard, when suffering shows up, when pressure increases, the instinct is always the same. We try to control what we cannot control. We start protecting ourselves. We start reacting out of fear. And slowly, without even noticing it, fear begins to shape our decisions, our relationships, and our obedience to Jesus. But Paul refuses to let Timothy live there.

Even while facing his own imprisonment and the reality of death, Paul points him somewhere higher. Do not live from fear. Live from the Spirit of God.

God has not left you to survive on your own strength or your own instincts. He has given you His Holy Spirit. And that Spirit does not produce fear. It produces power. It produces love. It produces self-control. So fan it into flame!

do not drift. Do not coast. Do not shrink back. Stir up what God has already placed in you. Stay close to Him. Stay obedient to Him. Stay surrendered to Him.

Fear will always try to pull you toward control, manipulation, and self-preservation. But the Spirit of God leads you into something better. Faithful obedience. Courageous love. Clear thinking. Steady self-control.

This is the call: not to live untouched by difficulty, but to live differently despite the difficulty. Not a spirit of fear. But a life empowered by the Holy Spirit!

Who is your spiritual leader?

Hebrews 13 calls us to remember our leaders, imitate their faith, and submit to spiritual leadership. But before we can understand what that means, we have to start with a more important question:

Is Jesus actually your authority?

The central truth of this week’s sermon was simple: Jesus is the Chief Shepherd. Every pastor, elder, Bible teacher, mentor, and spiritual leader is accountable to Him. Spiritual leaders are a gift, but they are never the goal. Their role is to help people know, trust, and follow Jesus.

We also talked about the boundaries of spiritual leadership. Spiritual leaders are called to serve, not control. Their authority is not inherent, but derived from God’s Word. Healthy spiritual leadership points people to Christ. Spiritual abuse begins when leaders claim authority God never gave them, when personal opinions become divine commands, or when loyalty to a leader replaces loyalty to Jesus.

But this message wasn’t just about identifying spiritual leaders in your life. It was also a challenge to become one.

Every believer should be asking: Who am I helping follow Jesus?

Who could I invite around my table? Who could I open the Bible with? Who could I encourage, disciple, and help grow in their faith?

Don’t wait for a title. Don’t wait for a position. Take responsibility for the people God has placed around you. Earn trust through sacrificial service and point people to Christ, not yourself.
