How We Agree to Live Together
Three Passages in Acts Which Describe Early Church Life
(Act 2:42-47)
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common.45 And they were
selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
1.) We will devote ourselves to Apostolic Doctrine-mainly the preaching of the good news about Jesus Christ.
2.) We will share meals together, pray together, and endeavor to remain awestruck of God as his earthly messengers
3.) We will spend our lives together, holding loosely to earthly possessions being sacrificially generous for the sake of the church
4.) We will endeavor to be hospitable, inviting others to join us in gladness, generosity and praising God, trusting that God will add to this type of God glorifying community those who are being saved. (Act 4:32-35)
32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
1.) We will seek to maintain unity being of one heart and soul, sharing ourselves with the community of believers
2.) We will remain committed to the historic resurrection of Jesus Christ as the crux of the truthfulness of the claims of Jesus Christ.
3.) We will seek to meet the needs of the community holistically as disciples of Jesus Christ
(Act 5:12-16)
12 Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico.13 None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem.14 And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.16 The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
1.) We will seek to be a community that displays signs and wonders to the truthfulness of the claims of Jesus.
2.) We will seek to be a church that the city holds in high esteem because of our witness to King Jesus.
3.) We will endeavor to be a place where holistic healing and freedom from the bo***ge of the effects of the fall of humanity no longer abound—to and for the glory
