Good evening church family,

Please note that there will be no potluck after church tomorrow due to the ongoing upgrades in our fellowship hall, including the replacement of the AC units. These improvements are necessary to better serve our congregation and community, and we appreciate your patience during this time.

We look forward to gathering together again for fellowship meals once the work is complete. Thank you for your understanding and continued support!

Maundy Thursday Service

Maundy Thursday is the day when Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples.
Within 24 hours of the Last Supper, Jesus would be hanging on a cross. The emotional strain on Jesus must have been heavy on the Thursday before he died. He would be executed on a cross in a few hours and yet, he chose to spend part of his last few hours with his followers talking to them about what’s most important.

Calvin has a very special service planned for Maundy Thursday, Thursday, April 2nd at 6:30 pm. You will enter into the holy and we look at what Jesus felt during this time in his life. Specifically, Pastor Larry will focus on what he felt and how he expressed his emotions in his meditation.

The service will also include the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and the stripping of the sanctuary. The stripping of the sanctuary is when we symbolically remember that Jesus died. The cross will be covered in black.

You and your loved one and friends will want to be at this service.

💵 “Alex, I’ll take Original Sin For $500.00.”

Answer: “This is what Eve and Adam committed in the Garden or Eden.”

🪴 And the correct question is, “What sin did Adam and Eve commit in the Garden of Eden?” If we were playing the TV game Jeopardy, that might be one of the questions.

🍎 Some believe Adam and Eve committed the first sin or original sin in the Garden of Eden. And they believe that original sin contaminated the rest of humankind. What about you? Do you think the rest of humankind was contaminated by that first sin? Some think every person who has been born since Adam and Eve were born with sin and with a disposition to sin?

🍏 By contrast, some say no. People were born sinless. Oh yes, we sin but we sin on our own. We don’t need any help from Adam and Eve. They take a more hopeful view of humankind. People are good. They believe the world will get better. Look at science. We’ve made great advances in science. Look at governments. More people live under governments that have the rule of law and democracy than ever before in human history. What do you think? Are people born good or bad? We will discuss this on Sunday?

This Sunday will be exciting!

🎥 Two New Actresses will make their Broadway…uh…Calvin debut on Sunday! They’ll be featured in Pastor Larry’s sermon.
🫒 Nia Vardalos, the actress from My Big Fat Greek Wedding will tell you about her New Year’s Resolution.
🍷 🥖 We’ll have the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and ask you who makes the world’s best chocolate? Come prepared for a sample
📜 We’ll also tell you about James Madison, the father of the US Constitution, who studied the issue of original sin and used it to frame our constitution!
⚓️ We’ll talk about Pastor Larry’s dad who was a Navy Chief and who on occasion thought his son had the IQ of coleslaw.
🎶 And we’ll also have great music as always!

Who Are You?

One of the Best Known
Rock Bands of all Time; The Who
Asked that Question in
Their Hit Song:
Who are You?

This is How Steve Jobs
the Founder of Apple Answered it,

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it
living someone else's life."

Who Are You?

How would you answer that question? We’re going to look at that question on Sunday. Jesus is going to help us answer it. His answer will shock you. Frankly, I didn’t like Jesus’ answer until I realized what it meant for me and my life. Lots of great things will happen Sunday at Calvin’s 11:00 worship service.

- Pastor Larry will tell you something about his family that he’s never told anyone with the exception of Peggy. There’s a reason why he’s kept it a secret too. We all have secrets.
- The music will be fabulous. Shelley and the Calvin Chorale get better every week! Plus, we are now in the season of Advent which means we’ll sing Christmas songs!

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Oscar Wilde

- We’re going to talk about DNA Tests. Have you taken a DNA Test?
- Speaking of Christmas. Invite someone to come to church with you. We’re celebrating! Jesus has come into the world! He’s here. Invite someone to come see the Lord with you at Calvin!
- Are you vain? We’re going to talk about someone who’s vain at Calvin. Do you think Jesus was vain?
- Something happened on December 7th in American history. Anyone remember what it was?
- This Sunday we’ll also share what many say is one of their favorite things, the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
