Rev. John Mahlon Eidam Jr. (Papa John)

July 1, 1948 - September 21, 2025

The memory of John Mahlon Eidam Jr., who passed away on September 21, 2025 at the age of 77, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of John Mahlon Eidam Jr. to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. Eidam, Sr. and Jeanette M. Eidam (Bechtel); his sister Janet M. Black (Raymond); and his brother-in-law Terry Kuhns. He is survived by: his sisters, Jeannie Martin (Dave), Jacquie (Mark) and Judy Kuhns; his daughter Kristy Pickurel; his grandsons, Jacob and Justin; and his son Todd Eidam (Stephanie). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., October 18, 2025 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 224 S. Military Hwy., Norfolk, Va 23502. The Celebrant will be The Rt. Rev. Susan B. Haynes and The Rev. Anne Dale will be the Homilist.

THE REV. J. SEGAR GRAVATT

Jacqueline Segar Gravatt (known as Segar) of Virginia Beach, Virginia died December 23,2024. She was born June 3, 1949, and grew up in Blackstone, Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, John Segar Gravatt and Isbell Turnbull Gravatt. Segar was an ordained Episcopal priest. Her life's work was helping other people. She began her professional career in the early '70's as a recreational therapist, teaching horseback riding to children with disabilities at the Arthur Godfrey Equestrian Center in Loudon County, VA. She subsequently worked as activities director at the Zuni Presbyterian Training Center for adults with disabilities, in Zuni, VA. In the early 80's she was "called "to the ministry and entered Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA where she graduated with a Doctor of Divinity degree. She went on to spend a year at the Episcopal Seminary in Alexandria before her ordination as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church. She subsequently worked as a "permanent" deacon for 15years, primarily as a chaplain in various settings in Tidewater VA, including Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Westminster-Canterbury. In 1999 she was ordained as a priest- the first woman to be ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern VA and joined All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, VA as Associate Rector, where she remained until her retirement in 2016. Segar hoped that she will be remembered for her love of God as well as her love of life, laughter and love for people, especially the children

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1,2025 at All Saints Episcopal Church.
