Following today's service, our church doors will close and we will be ending our visible ministry at Norfolk Wesleyan.
Naturally, we are heart-sick at this ending point in our church's history. We reflect on the hundreds of people who have been touched and ministered to over the last 100+years, and we pray God will remind them of the blessings they found by coming through the doors...
.. or attending a picnic, a Trunk or Treat, a trash pick-up, a church potluck, or an Easter egg hunt ...
Or even sitting on the front-steps, overlooking Main Street, watching a parade go by.
Because God sees church differently than we often do. We see the beginning and end of a legal entity. We see the start and close of a church... but Jesus said,
"I will build MY church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it."
The church as the Body of Christ will never fade away; it will never be defeated! Does that mean that our local expression of the body of Christ, our legal organizations, will never close? Sadly, no. BUT:
It IS comforting to know that the ultimate responsibility for the growth of the Kingdom of God, His Church, rests on Jesus.
And in that, we have great Hope.
