From your Conference Superintendent,
I have received emails and inquiries regarding the wildfires in South Georgia so I wanted to reach out to the annual conference to keep you informed. I have been in conversation with Jay Hansen, the Conference Superintendent. Terry Peters, our annual conference Director for Disaster Relief, has also been in contact with the Disaster Relief effort in South Georgia. Please be aware that we are monitoring the situation through VOAD and other resources on the ground. They have confirmed that they had a lot of donations and did not feel they have a need at this time.
With only 15% of the fire contained, we need to pray for the first responders and the families who have lost their homes and for RAIN to help quench the fire. Wildfires are a little different than tornadoes and hurricanes. Once the fire is contained there will likely be a need to help with distribution of supplies, spiritual and emotional care, family assistance, and potentially some cleanup. We will reach out to you as soon as we have an update.
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected, the families, the first responders, officials and communities. Prayer is not our last option. In fact, prayer is the greatest opportunity we have in this moment. I would ask all of our churches to be praying for those affected by the wildfires as we gather for worship on Sunday.
Rev. Andy Postell
Conference Superintendent
