Applying The Blood of Jesus and the Word to our Daily Lives
There is Power in the Blood of Jesus
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The Book of Revelations lets us know that we overcame the enemy by the words of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb. I (Margaret) therefore accept that as we plead the blood of Jesus with the Word of God, which we have in our heart and spirit, the enemy sees the blood covering the whole of our body. The enemy assumes that this one is dead and nothing more to do to him or her - for we are dead to sin and alive in Christ.
When we use or apply the blood of Jesus it is like we are using His life that is like He is physically present to fight the battle –
Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
The blood is eternal and speaks. It is only the blood of Jesus that speaks life rather than condemnation to as many as humbly call upon Him –
Hebrews 9:13-14
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hebrews 12: 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
We can rely on the Lord Jesus to reveal to us the power in His blood; for it is by this confident trust in Him that the blessing obtained by the blood becomes ours. We can never and must never try to separate the blood from the High Priest who shed it, and forever lives to apply it
1Peter 1:18-19 reads: -
18 Ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things...
19 But with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
The shedding of His blood was the culmination of the sufferings of our Lord, and the atoning efficacy of those sufferings was in that shed blood. The blood of Jesus was shed at Calvary for the remission of sin. As believers we are expected to press for a fuller knowledge of what is meant by the statement that we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus; there is more to the blood than redemption. Through the blood we see in the Scriptures that: -
There is reconciliation through the blood;
There is cleansing through the blood;
There is sanctification through the blood;
There is union with God through the blood;
There is victory over Satan through the blood;
There is life through the shed blood of Jesus
The value of the blood of Jesus corresponds to the value of the life that is in it; for instance, the life of a sheep or goat is of less value than that of an oz. So, the blood of a sheep or goat in an offering is of less value than that of an oz – Leviticus 4: 3, 14, and 27. The life of man is more valuable than that of many sheep or oxen.
Who can tell the value of the blood of Jesus? For in that blood dwelt the soul of the Son of God; the eternal life of the Godhead was carried on that blood – Acts 20: 28. Therefore the power of that blood is nothing less than the eternal power of God Himself. What limitless power we have at our disposal as saints of God!
It is only those of the cross in both Testaments who have access to God. While the “cross” is in the Old Testament, its teachings and pictures are there. Only by the cross, can God save in either of the two Testaments. Without sprinkling of blood there is no remission of sin. If there is no remission of sin, there is no salvation, and if we are not saved, we are not justified.
The just lives by faith and without faith it is impossible to please God.
- Adam and Eve saw it in the blood of animals in the Garden of Eden.
- Abraham saw it in his circumcision;
- Moses and the children of Israel in the sprinkling of the blood of animals.
- Rahab saw it in the scarlet thread.
Christ and His gospel are preached even in the Old Testament Hebrews 4: 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Read also Galatians 3: 8. In the Old Testament sin must be atoned for with a type of the blood of Jesus. Since the crucifixion, when the real blood was shed, therefore now the blood of Jesus must be applied as we face the challenges of today. The enemy cannot cross the blood line. What has that power accomplished for us?
The blood opened the grave – Hebrews 13: 20 Now the God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the everlasting covenant. The blood of Jesus was involved in God’s almighty power that raised Jesus from the dead.
The blood Opened Heaven – Hebrews 9:12. It is ever and always through the blood that the throne of grace remains settled in heaven. Hebrews 12: 22-24.
It is the constant “speaking” of the blood that keeps heaven open for sinners and sends streams of blessing down on earth.
Just like the power of the blood of Jesus broke open the gates of the grave, and of hell to let Jesus out, and us with Him; so it has opened the gates of heaven for Him and us with Him, to enter! The blood has an almighty power of the kingdom of darkness and hell beneath, and over all the kingdom of heaven and its glory above.
As believers, therefore we must constantly be washed in the blood, and administer the blood, to work for us and against our enemies. We can confidently answer every accusation of the Devil with the Blood, for which he has no answer. If the prince of this world (the Devil) had known he would not have crucified the Prince of Peace. Since He did, the blood of Jesus which is eternally alive is eternally available to all that will appropriate it. The Blood speaks on our behalf to our Father, so that we are just before Him.
Being justified by faith through the blood of Jesus we can walk freely with our heads raised up knowing and assured that we can live victorious lives and be over comers. Jesus made the way by shedding His blood for us. The power of the blood becomes manifest through faith; for without faith we cannot reach, talk to nor declare God’s counsel. Our faith can be strengthened as we focus on the things the blood has done and is able to do for us. Through this our trust in God and the blood of Jesus which He made available to us can be effectively applied in every aspect of our lives.
T
he Blood and the Holy Spirit bear testimony together. Where the blood is honored in faith of preaching, there the Spirit works; and where He works, He always leads souls to the blood. Notice that the Holy Spirit did not come until the blood was shed at Calvary! It is to be noted that if the full power of the blood is to be manifested in our souls, we must place ourselves under the teaching of the Holy Spirit!
Through the Holy Spirit, the blood will cleanse, sanctify, and unite us to God. For instance, Paul called on believers to hearken to God’s voice with His call to holiness – 1 Peter 1: 16-19, to remember they are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. Our Lord Jesus by the shedding of His blood made us priests and kings unto God, that we may draw near to God not only in priestly ministry, but also in power and authority.
That we may rule for God here on earth – as His ambassadors, as He does in heaven and over all the earth. A kingly spirit must inspire us, with a kingly courage to rule over our enemies and the situations they create. The blood of Jesus must increasing be a token and seal, not only of reconciliation for all guilt, but victory over all the power of sin. Heavenly joy through the blood of the Lamb will be the portion of all, here on earth, who yields to its power with undivided heart.
The Word of God – The Sword of the Spirit
The Word of God is also known as - THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT), and like faith, prayers and the Anointing of the Spirit of God are available as defensive and offensive weapons. When we consistently dwell in the word of God we are guarded with and backed by the power of God. Thereby no evil will befall us neither can any harm or come nigh our dwelling place.
Many times, we find out that what society calls disability is an attribute when channeled aright. We must therefore refuse every effort of the enemy to make feel or act inferior to the other members of society. Rather we should acknowledge that we are and behave the way we should according to God’s word –
Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Great men and women of God have had to face challenges and different forms of opposition from far and near. But victory has always been worn by their reliance on God whose Word does never fail. David was a shepherd boy, whom the father did not deem fit to be considered for anointing to be king of Israel by Samuel the prophet. Yet he ended up being the greatest king in Israel and God has a testimony concerning him – That He (God) found a man after His own heart
Isaiah 5: 8-11
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord…
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
David in Psalm119:105 declare that the Word of God is both a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. In other words, the Word of the LORD lightens our darkness and as we walk in the light of His /word we cannot miss the way, neither can we stumble as we go along the narrow path that leads to life. The Word of God is eternal, it does not fail, and it speaks the mind of God on every issue of our lives.
He is our Maker, following His precepts as laid out in His word is like following the instructions of the manufacture’s manual, which if followed will preserve the equipment or material – Psalm 119: 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The sword of Ehud is a type of the Word of God, which we are to use with wisdom for the complete elimination of our enemy –
Judges 3: 15-25
15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man left-handed: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.
16 But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.
17 And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man…
This sword is typified by the one used by Ehud to kill Eglon the king of Moab – Read the story of Ehud in Judges 3: 15-31. Notice that Ehud was left-handed and therefore different from everyone else. As children of God we must be different and ready to optimize the attributes that God gives us to the advantage of His kingdom. Every one of us is unique and specially prepared for specific assignments in the Kingdom of God.
All we need do then is to find out the specific use that God expects us to put the special attributes He has given us to. So, whatever the need, great or small, God’s Word has the answer and God expects us to be always armed with His word.
Ephesians 6:17 Take the sword of the Spirit, which is also the word of God.
Also, Hebrews 4: 12.
The Word of God is to be used as a powerful weapon against Satan and all the powers of darkness.
It is to be used to open all peoples’ eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to that of God.
That people might receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Christ Jesus – Acts 26: 18.
It is to be used to tear down strongholds; to build up; to heal; to set the captives free; and to seek and save those who are lost.
God is His Word, therefore praying of speaking God’s Word is speaking the very being of God into the situation. Meditating on God’s Word causes the truth, spirit and power of God to become integrated with our own beings and with the being for those whom we intercede. Speaking God’s truth, His Love and His power brings knowledge, cleansing, healing and wholeness. It brings peace, unexplained joy, and freedom –Proverbs 4: 20-22; Psalm 119. God has these to say about His Word:
1. Proverbs 4:20-22..22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
2. Isaiah 55:10-11
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
3. Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
4. Jeremiah 1:2 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
5. Jeremiah 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
6. Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
7. John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. And the Word was God
2 The same was in the beginning with God
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
8. 1 John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word; in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him.
9. Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed in vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God (Description of Jesus).
The Word of God is powerful, and effective, but it can only work for us to the extent that we have faith in and apply it. It will not work if it is not used or applied. Remember it is a spiritual sword; and a sword if worth its sharpness only if it is taken out of its sheath and used to cut though an object!
It must be kept in our hearts not left in the pages of the paper on which the Word are written, for God admonishes us to keep the Law/His Word in our hearts and meditate in it day and night – Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:2; Romans 10:8.
