WRCC women will be returning to the Appalachia Mtns. in KY this fall as they partner with Red Bird Ministry to offer a variety of services (home repairs, Meals-on-Wheels, Bible Study & bingo at the Sr. Ctr, plus other opportunities) to help/encourage others in need in this improverished area of the U.S.
Deadline to register is 5/15/26.

SUNDAY, 9/7: the Women's Appalachia Team arrived safely yesterday late afternoon to Red Bird Mission campus. What a beautiful morning the team woke up to--the sun shining through the mountain mist! So peaceful & calm!! Before heading to church the team gathered for a S.O.A.P. Bible Study together. New Hope Ministries Church has been a staple now for several years where the team has a strong connection w/a Red Bird staff member (a former jobsite crew chief) whose dad pastor's this small mountain church. What a wonderful & unexpected surprise the congregation gave our team--a homecooked meal directly after the service!! WOW--they are GREAT cooks!! Several soups in crockpots, sandwiches, & desserts! (Was it mentioned that EVERYTHING was homemade??!!) Later in the day, the rest of the volunteers (total of 49) arrived from AL, PA, & WI. Team is bonding well & looking forward to a great week!

15 ladies left this morning on the Appalachia Mission Trip to SE KY (Beverly, KY). They will be performing construction on a widow's home, offering a Bible Study, singing, bingo, & fellowship to the Sr. Center, and taking Meals-on-Wheels to shut-ins. Prayers for safety & for the team to be the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone they connect with this week.

Also visited a quaint village close to Ostrowic. They were so warm and welcoming. They fed us kielbasa cooked to perfection on the grill. The children sang to us and we led them in songs, gave a lesson and did a craft. They gave each of us a beautiful porcelain cup and saucer made nearby. It was a wonderful time for all.

Appalachia Team Day 5:
Final day of workcamp. Bittersweet as we say goodbye to the homeowners, our fun crew chief, the lovely ladies @ the Sr. Center, the other volunteers we've met from Ohio & Georgia this week, plus all the staff here on Red Bird campus. THEY ARE FAMILY!!

1 word: RAIN!
Team woke to a foggy day that brought the rain clouds up on the project site & the heavens opened up w/praise & RAIN!! But stopping isn't an option @ Red Bird.

Appalachia Team Day 2:
Team definitely ready to work!
1 member participated in delivering over 15 hot Meals-on-Wheels to the mtn. folk. What a fun day for Shonda meeting SO many faces & understanding much more how folks survive in these iscolated but beautifu mountains. The rest of the team drove 30 mins. to start construction on a home, of a lovely young couple w/3 kids (middle school-college freshman) that was passed down to them; the home sits on the side of a mtn. own by the family for generations.
Great start to our week; team enjoying themselves, accepting the challenge before them, & enjoying meeting some wonderful people: other volunteers from Ohio & Georgia, the Red Bird staff, & of course the locals.
