How long have you served in the Grace Care Center?
Since November of 2024!

What area do you serve in and why?
I serve in the co-op as a life coach every Tuesday night. I knew Jed as he was the co-leader of our Rooted small group at Grace Fishers way back in the day. I met with him to see what opportunities there would be to serve with him at the Care Center. When he told me about the co-op and that he was looking for coaches, it seemed like a perfect fit for me (as I've spent a lot of time coaching our staff and interns in my ministry with Cru). I love coming alongside people to listen to them talk about their lives and, when appropriate, give input/perspective to help them grow. I especially enjoy talking with others about the spiritual area of life and I get to do that often at the co-op!

What keeps you coming back?
Mostly I just really care about people and listening to their struggles and encouraging them! In the past year and a half, my co-coach, Heather, and I have seen God work in people's lives in some really cool ways. It's such a privilege getting to listen to and bring hope to people, and we get to pray with them often. We even saw one guy pray with us to invite Jesus to come into his life. That was awesome!

How has serving in the Grace Care Center changed you?
Well, it has made me a better listener for sure! And even though I'm technically coaching the people who come to the co-op, I have learned so much from each one of them. These friends are so humble and are daily looking to and trusting God to meet their needs. From their examples, I have learned to depend on God more in my own life and to be more grateful and thankful for all the ways that He takes care of me and my family!

A new favorite hobby for me is playing pinball. My friend got me into it about a year ago, and we have done a few road trips to visit places that have hundreds of pinball tables. You pay about $20 to play as much pinball as you want for about 12 hours. It's a blast!

We had some English Class graduations last week! πŸŽ“

Through Grace Care Center, we offer English classes to help our friends improve their speaking and writing skills for future jobs and everyday opportunities. We are SO proud of them as they continue to achieve their goals. This past semester we had 10 graduates. Congratulations to them all!

Here are just a few of them featured in these photos: JosΓ©, Jogisa, Ariana, Rafael, Geraldine, and MarΓa. Congratulations to all of our graduates! πŸ‘

How long have you served in the Grace Care Center?
It was either 2013 or 2014 that I started on Tuesday nights on the pantry register.

What area do you serve in and why?
Currently I serve in Monday night English class and Wednesday morning either on freezer board or as a personal shopper.

What keeps you coming back?
Both of those jobs are so rewarding. I love seeing how hard our English students work and it's easy to develop quite good friendships with them over a whole year of classes. And Wednesday morning is special too because I tend to see the same people week after week and begin to know their names and learn things about them and their families. It's also helping me brush up on my very rusty Spanish.

How has serving in the Grace Care Center changed you?
My heart has definitely been expanded for people who have fallen on hard times and people coming from other countries to make a life here, since I started volunteering. It's so exciting to be part of something that is so well done. I'm just so proud of Grace for continuing to fine tune all the various aspects of the Care Center. I LOVE my church!

Many people are not aware that I grew up in the jungle in Peru, South America.

17 NEW JOBS secured by our Co-Op friends in the last several months! πŸŽ‰πŸ’Ό

Here are just 5 of the incredible individuals celebrating this milestone: Javier, Maricarmen, Veronica, Ely, and Maria. We couldn’t be prouder of each of them and all of the hard work it took to get here.

A special thank you to our life and financial coaching volunteers who walked alongside them every step of the way. Your encouragement and support make stories like these possible. Cheers to many more accomplishments to come!

How long have you served in the Grace Care Center?
I worked in Grace Care Center mid 2018 until the onset of Covid in 2020. Since I am a care giver to my mother who has health issues, I decided to take a sabbatical from the Care Center until mid-2023. I have continued my volunteer initiatives there to date.

What area do you serve in and why?
I work as a coach/mentor in the Co-Op program, and we establish a β€œsafe space” where our friends can unload their life’s burdens without judgement; help them navigate next steps and options; and offer resources, tools and assistance until they are able to confidently assume control of their lives. The best outcomes are when these friends are able to graduate from the program and β€œpay it forward” in re-investing their energies in Grace Care Center.

What keeps you coming back?
Matthew 9 speaks of the harvest being plentiful, but the laborers are few. Since I am committed to aligning myself with this body of believers at Grace, and there is work to be done that requires skills that God has gifted me with, I had no choice but to metaphorically jump in the harvest and do my best to the glory of God. The fact that our friends find value in our interaction, that it diminishes stress and anxieties, and gives hope, is what keeps me coming back.

How has serving in the Grace Care Center changed you?
Serving in Grace Care Center has made me more thankful for so many things that I took for granted in my own life. It has also made me humbler and more empathetic. It’s like having a front-row seat while watching God change lives and answer prayers. If I can be a conduit of God’s love, mercies, and grace, I am open to be used by Him. This surrender has changed me in ways I never thought possible.

I love to travel. I have visited and explored four of the seven continents and have summited Mount Sinai and Mount Kilimanjaro.
